shortly after the beginning of this NHL season, I swore I would not watch another Leafs game until Ron Wilson was fired (unless I was invited by friends, as I didnt want to spoil social activity for the sake of cutting Leafs TV ratings). Christmas day was a blow for me when Burke gave Wilson a stupid extra year contract (he now gets a whole extra year of free money, lucky him). Finally, yesterday I got to celebrate the end of a coach who nightly blamed the losses on anyone and anything but himself, regularly trashing his players; running them down with a metaphorical bus, backing up, and running over them again. I was ecstatic.
But, then Burke went and fucked it up again. He hired Randy Carlyle. Now I, like most people in Leafs nation, figured that, well hey, he won a Stanley Cup, he's gotta be better than Wilson. If I felt like the problem with the Leafs team was that they'd been having it too easy, with far too nice of a coach, I'd agree. However, they went from one guy that was a jerk to his players, to a guy who has a reputation for sucking the fun and life out of the game of hockey... wonderful. Lupul, our second leading scorer, was "distraught" when he learned that Carlyle had been hired, after having previous conflicts playing with him.
Sparknotes: here's one member of Leafs Nation that isn't being fooled by Bryan Burke's coaching change. Carlyle's more of an jerk than Wilson. We ain't going anywhere.
