Each eye picks up a slightly different image but our brain merges them to create depth. That gif is shifting between an image that would be seen from the right eye and one from the left. The way 3D glasses work is pretty much the same. I made a few of them for my portfolio last year.
this one appears to have been done through layering. The easiest spot to notice it is at his feet when you can clearly see two layers alternating in shifting back and forth.
easy man if you have CS5 photoshop use the puppet warp tool to bent a copy of the same image and have it animated between both images in a gif... not sure if PNG allows animations but could try that too
dammit some didnt work. but pretty much these are animated images that simulate 3D effect by looping two or three frames of an object shot from the vantage points of the viewer’s right and left eyes.
