This is by no means a big production, it was me, the director/editor, our own equipment, and the artists (and a couple of their friends who we sat and ate donuts with). After gas paid to travel I made about $30, so yeah. But tell me what you think about it! We're shooting another video Saturday so I'd love to hear creative ideas pertaining to country music videos.
pretty sick man! story line is kind of reppetetive imo as far as going back and forth, but thats probably what you guys were going for. aside from that great job! music videos are my personal least favorite thing to shoot just because the audio has always been a pain for me, what are you using? great job tho
Some of the shots in the big open field, the reflector was way too harsh, i think a slightly less reflective surface would work better or just shoot at a different angle if you can. Either way, it was bad enough that i noticed it. some shots were better than others, but it was really obvious at times.
yeah, we used both a silver and gold reflector and the gold had better skin tones, so I think thats why he went with it. not sure how the silver looked at full res though.
go for a white reflector next time, it will bounce the light that the sun is giving off. often we think of the sun as being yellow but it actualy gives realy blue light so bouncing gold on your actor makes him stand out in a bad way.
I liked most of the editing but hated all of the effects. The titles were classy but those pictures have to go.... easy fix: shoot a bunch of pictures on a table or thrown on the ground and cut in.
the eyes blinking looked amateur also.
apart from that good settings nice shots.
country clip... I would like to see some close ups on important moments. Think about the camera more as an entity than a camera. When your closer to the person your in the persons bubble, you get more emotion, you connect more. A long shot is also important, it establishes and can be used as emphasis for swag, comedy, size... just a matter of chosing the right framing with these things in mind.
In this case it would have been sick to get in closer with the touching message of the chorus, like get some lifestyle shots in there and all but make everything a medium close up or closer.
When the black guy was rapping as he sat on the front steps/porch, i noticed some pale white glare/cover sliding over the shot. It kind of looked annoying and was bothering me, but I couldne figure it out. Look at the bottom right corner and see if you notice it. Just what i noticed, id like an instrumental to that song if possible at all.
I thought it was good, never shot anything like this. One thing towards the end the bigger fellow seemed to be flat and not really into it. good work though!
I thought the whole video looked really good.
I mostly do photo stuff myself, so take what I say with a grain of salt here.
I do agree with eheath on the reflector thing. I thought it was a little too harsh at times. When the rapper was backlit by the sun at one point (i'm pretty sure it was the reflector) was lighting up his hand moving around a lot. It just seemed pretty distracting. It could have been the gold color of the reflector, but is there any way it could have been the distance of the reflector to your subject? I know distance plays a lot in the spreading of light, so if you had the guys holding it a little too close it could have been more pinpointed on your subject? I understand that gold probably worked better with your white balance and the "look" you were trying to get of the shot, so I don't think you would have had to change the color of it, if that's what you were going for. How far away were the guys holding the reflector though, because I still think that could possibly be it.
I really could be wrong though, because I've literally never used a gold reflector before honestly. I've used silver and white but that's it.
I really like the tones and feel of the video though. Also the steadicam shots seemed pretty good and smooth too.
