Driver's Test

Im finally about to take my drivers test to get my license. Turned 16 last November..
Right now I'm waiting in my car while the first round of testers are driving. I wouldn't say I'm nervous, just anxious. I'm one of the last people in my grade to get their license.

Anyway, I'll post back in this thread when the test is over. Hopefully it'll be good!

I was supposed to get my full licence last friday. we were supposed to get 10-15cm of snow. we got less than 1 cm. Drivetest centre had cancelled all tests based on the forecast. Needless to say i was furious.

Pay attention. I feel like I didn't drive perfect on my test, but I was confident and paid attention. Just don't get tunnel vision

If I'm understanding the question right, you can get your learner's permit at 15 and your license at 16. Then the test I imagine in the same everywhere.. DMV, cruise around with your instructor, etc

Seriously though man just pay attention be polite and drive safe you'll be fine. If you do make a mistake acknowledge it and say you know what ou should have done etc. good luck it's cake

I cant imagina drivers tests in the US to be that hard. Mostly automatic transmission, wide open streets and so on (not hating). In Germany you would have to do a lot of theory lessons, a written theoretical test, a lot of driving lessons with your instructor and then a driving test with the tester (not your instructor ofc).
Also most of the cars arent automatic transmission (which is harder for starting to learn it, but far more awesome to actually drive :D)

fun story:
on one of my friends first driving lesson, he killed the engine after a stop light. The car behind him ran into his car. Fun thing about it: the people who ran into him were cops :D

Thanks guys. Got a bitch lady tester who was freakin me out. Funny story: my registration on my car expires today, so if it wasn't leap year I would've been fucked. What makes it even more funny is that my dad always laughs at how at his first test his mom hadn't gotten the cars registration up to date so he couldn't test. I was driving my dads car. If it wasn't leap year I woulda been piiiissed cuz I would've had to use my moms van. Diving minivans is a bitch

that right there is why I never drive near any high school around when school starts or ends. None of them know how to drive.


Even though i got mine at 16, I still didn't feel like I was fully confident until i was at least 19, and driving longer distances/in cities for work.

How old were you when you got your license?

And here's my in depth story of failure:
So I pass in my papers inside the DMV. The guy who took them was one of the testers and wa a straight up bro. I was like "hell yeah, I hope I get him". At this point I wasn't even nervous, I just wanted to get it over with. I take my eye test, easy. The guy tells me to go wait in my car so I still on over. My friend had the same test time and had parked adjacent to me. While we waited for the testers to come we had our windows down and were talkin. I see the bro tester make his way over towards us. I was praying I'd get him. No. He goes to my friend. Then I hear the tester ask my friend to hit the e-brake. My nerves got the best of me and I totally forgot how to do it in my car... so I texted my mom. Nobody was coming to my car though. I was confused at this point, I asked myself if they forgot about me, then figured I had to wait till the first round was done, which is what I ended up having to do. I was playin some Bob Marley in the car in hopes to ease my nerves, which were growing stronger with every passing moment. Nearly a half hour passes until finally some lady comes to my car. I tried to make friendly conversation and she just shut me down and said she'll keep conversation to a minimum to help me focus of on driving. I pull out of the parking lot and the car I need to parallel park is literally 20 yards away. First attempt: hit the curb. Second attempt: was gunna hit the curb so I had to leave. Did fine for the rest until close to the end where I did 20 in a 15 cuz I accelerated too fast off of a stop sign then rolled the following stop sign. I didn't really care though cuz I knew. I already failed.
Then when I get back to make it worse, my friend passed so now he'll rub it in my face. Don't blame him tho cuz I'd do the same thing.

Neither can I. I got licensed when I was 16, and I can say I certainly should not have been able to drive alone. I was so ignorant. I remember you saying how your country prepares your drivers and I really wish the US would handle it that way. Too many idiots on the road.

Gotta be 18 in Finland? Yeah I agree that there are sooo many people unqualified on the road. However it must suck to go through nearly all of high school without anyone having their license

Why would it suck if it's the norm here? Most people here think that even 18 is too young to get a license these days and it should be much stricter to get one.

They can always get a moped license at 15 if they want and a motorcycle (100cc) license at 16 if they want to drive around by themselves.

In the personal opinion of this gentleman, you should get your license at 21, and be able to drink at 18. This way you learn how to handle alcohol before you go around operating a vehicle. It just makes sense imo.


But i got 100% both on the written and driving test. Its easy as shit.

It really is. I rolled through 3 stops signs before the lady said I had to do a full 3 second stop - and I still passed.

around here its also 18 and while it has more to do with experience than age, i just think that 16 yr olds shouldnt be driving.

i know its a different thing in the US with generally more space and longer distances between everything, but youre not even a fully responsible member of society (legally), still you can drive a 3,5 ton truck around.

Yeah, HS drivers are crazy. My HS parking lot is the scariest place to be in. Thats why I dont park there everyone is an insane driver. Also, it is all tight spaces so everone is getting in little fender benders and stuff. That sucks that you failed because of parallel parking, we don't have to do that in CO.

I think that the learner's permit is a good idea though, and it could be incorporated to countries with existing required classes. I wouldn't have minded to drive around under supervision on top of driving classes, although I did go and fuck around in some parking lots a few times with my dad.

Here you can also make your parent the supervisor by installing extra break, gas and clutch pedals onto the passenger's side along with the instructor's mirrors. Then you can drive around as much as you want, but I've heard some close stories of parent/child relations nearly being ripped apart due to the stress involved in the process and them not being qualified instructors :D

The public transportation is very different there than it is here though mike-o. Being in Maine there are kids coming from 25 miles out inthe woods to get o class and parents can't always drive them. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of 16 who have no business having their license but it is necessary here. What surprises me is there is no renewal test after any period of time. Plenty of old people have to have it ripped from them and let me tell you there are some seriously scary old people drivers, at least as much as young people. Someone said something about being familiar with alcohol before driving above and that however improbable seemed like a logical progression to me. Too bad it's not possible especially herein America

Mike-O: I'm sure it doesn't seem bad since its the norm, as licenses at 16 doesn't seem weird to most people here. The fact you can get a moped license at 15 is really cool though, I didn't know that. And having a permit for a year really does make a huge difference, and Driver's-Ed basically readies you for the license test. Like I had parallel parking down a year ago when I took drivers Ed but its been so long, I should've practiced more than I did cuz I basically just lost the feel for it. But holy shit you're so right about kid-parent fights while driving before they have their license. My mom is always on the edge of her seat when I drive with her and yells at me when I don't do something perfectly, as if she's a perfect driver. She's anything but

to me a good driver has not much to do with parking parallel like a champ or whatever.

there has to be a general self-confidence. some young people (no sexism, seriously, but girls more than boys) look totally lost and unsure of themselves during driving school and during their first few years driving.

THAT is a problem. fuck it if you need 5 tries to get your car into a narrow space. as long as your hands arent sweaty as fuck all the time, youre probably a legitimate driver.

Well 9 years ago in IL when I got my license, if you got an A behind the wheel in drivers ed, as well as an A in the classroom, you were exempt from taking the driving test and written test at the DMV.

Pretty sure its still like this as my 16yo bro just got his license, you just need a shit load more hours.

When you are taking the driving test, there is no reason to fail anything other than the parallel parking part, and that is easy shit once you learn your car. Why would you speed, roll a stop sign, or cross the white line, you know thats gonna cost you. Its like if a cops behind you, you drive PERFECT!

I understand that the distances might be longer in some places, but good public transport in Finland stops working effectively the more North you go, so there are a lot of kids who have that same trek of 25 miles from the middle of the woods to get to school even here, but they are mostly supported by school taxis.

I had to go check, but my license expires in April 2056, so I'll be almost 70 until I have to go through a new medical examination to see if I'm allowed on the road anymore.

How do you fail parallel parking? It's the easiest part of the test haha. You haven't even left the parking lot yet. And speeding/rolling stop signs? Did you forget that you were being observed and scored? It's a driver's test. Sounds like your problem wasn't the instructor, it was your lack of common sense/driving skill.

Oh I wasn't blaming it on the instructor. But I'll have to disagree with you on parallel parking being the easiest part, as will most people. I don't know why you're so surprised I failed, most people fail their first time. Calm down.
