so this weekend it snowed allot in the northwest. it dumped at my home mountain snoqualmie. so i decided to go skiing on my fat skis. we where skiing down and my friends decided to cut a rope. i was against it but i had to follow them. we where skiing really deep blower snow. after about 5 turns i was going down and i thought i was hitting a pillow. but i wasent a pillow it was a drop off to a creek. after i hit that i slammed into the other side of the creek which popped my skis off. then i began to fall 15-20 feet onto rocks. very luckily i landed on my ski boots in about knee deep water. i was so lucky. if i had fallen about 5 feet down i would have landed in the end of the creek and went into the underground water tunnels and died. after that everyone i was skiing with helped carve out a path up the really steep wall of snow. i got out and i wasent hurt.(picture below is of me in the creek)
do you guys have any storys skiing that you could have gotten seriousley injured but you got really lucky?Click for larger image

i know im a dumbass and i am familiar with the area i just wasent thinking and you can fall in that creek from the main run

Funny cause I had somethin similar happen a few weeks ago in big cottonwood. Was following my buddy who knew the area pretty well. We spotted a cool looking ridge into a steep tree line that he'd never hit but always wanted to. He asked if my other buddy and I were down and we said sure. The ridge itself was fun. A few smaller drops. Good snow. Got into the tree line and it got progressively tighter and steeper. My one buddy bringing up the rear saw something he didn't like and cut across the fall line out of the trees to a flat area. I didn't see or he hear him so I kept following the lead. Hit a few drops and the lead cut hard in front of me. I knew somethin was up but I took the next drop because it was too late to slow down. I stopped immediately as we both noticed the fall line changed dramatically and we were basically standing about 30-40' above a creek of death. Huge jagged rocks. It woulda sucked for sure had we gone any further. Due to my position being further down than everyone else it took quite a while to climb back out. One of those "the snow is so deep ya gotta swim out, using your skis with your hands to climb" kinda situations. Yeah it sucked. My arms and legs were sooo beat after climbing outta there. So yeah, when someone says "I've never hit this before..." don't immediately jump on board no matter how much trust you have in that persons bc ability.

one time at snowbird i hit a rock right before i was about to hit a little cliff in the trees. swan dove over the cliff, and on the first tomahawk i was looking right at a tree like 5-10 feet in front of me. contorted my body to direct the tomahawk away from the tree and missed it by like 2 feet and finally came to a stop about 30 feet below that. i have no way of knowing whether it would have been life or death, but it would have been really bad. i looked back up at my tomahawk marks in the snow and it was so close it really shook me. i went home right afterwards to collect my thoughts, but i was out again the next day. scary for sure!

Damn mobile! Anyway, I was so much further down that it took 3 times as long for me to get back up to a safely skiable fall line away from the canyon creek of death. After I was out though looking down at it, I realized how lucky we were.

worst close call was working park crew ice coast last winter. Park is a sheet of ice coming down a jump landing on a sled loaded with rakes shovels and augers, I'm riding on the back. Sled starts to slide out and instead of throttling to catch up with it kid jacks the brakes and we go completely sideways roll the sled and slide amidst bouncing tools and snowmobile for about sixty feet down the landing. Thought I broke my arm which luckily I didn't. Pumped to miss work for a dumb reason though for a week.. jack ass.

Yeah if theres a rope across a trail theres usually a pretty good reason for it.. Obviously referring to areas that have high avalanche danger and steep terrain.

riding riders right off of panoramic express in winter park following friends from the area we were riding the very edge of the boundary rope on the last run of the day in the trees. it had snowed the night before and we were riding pretty fast through some tracked out pow. I was following my two buddies taking up the back of the group. My legs were mush as we were the last group for the day coming down from the summit. I was goin a lil fast for my level of exhaustion and lost my balance and went head first into a tree hole. was completely buried up head first in the snow. My friends were gone and it was about 330 pm. Managed to hug the tree and shimmy up it, unclip and swim out with my skis. Ive never been so scared/tired in my entire life. as i made my way down to the parking lot my friends were like what did you do take another lap? and i was like nope i nearly died but thanks for being concerned.....

I was rippin through the Lower Hazard (Out of bounds Terrain smack dab in the Middle of the mountain). Id never been through this particular ravine before, I usually stay up on the ridge. Anyways, I came rippin through this natural berm style corner and look to my right and see a small bowl where snow has been falling into a creek. It was totally concealed, and I though nothing of it until ........ ......... ........ woah! I almost fell into a hole, 6 feet in diameter, and about 20 feet down into an ice cold creek that would sweep you beneath the snow. I stop and catch my breath and take a look around. The whole area is pocketed with about 7 of these holes. In some of them you can see where people have fallen in and had to climb straight up about 20 feet. It was crazy haha

But to lighten the story up, at the end of the Hazard I came across a nice 15ft untouched drop, and seshed that until my bindings wore loose :P

At keystone I was skiing trees and going relatively fast, there was about a foot of powder ontop of the base, so im shreadin along by myself and i ride over a little hump and bam. suddenly im in the air about 30ft to flat falling down some random rocky cliff like terrain. fell 30 feet onto some pine branch and was fine, still scary as fuck
