My first protest

So, John Edwards came to town today, and we gave him a not so welcome reception. The USC college republicans meet up and handed out signs and we headed over to the speech. We started off opposed by one black man riding a bike, but as we walked closer we found little children yelling at us. We were being respectful of everyone, but some of the democrats got nasty, they chucked a full coke can at my buddies face who was in an elephant costume. It came to a head to head battle once we got to the venue, a line of republicans and a line of democrats yelling at each-other. We had some good chants aside from the normal 4 more years, we had 'flush the johns,' 'keep your ketchup,' stuff like that. I must say it was a blast, I had a great time yelling at ignorant dems. They were saying stuff like 'no more war,' like your candidate didn't and doesn't support it, also '6 more weeks and the kerry,' poor fucks can't do math, it is much more the 6 weeks until inauguration day. I will get pictures up tomorrow when the newspaper comes out.

I'm all for bush. But fighting like this is nuts. Political parties are gonna tear America apart i see it coming. Washington was all against them there political parties in the first place.

yea im pretty stoked you left for the speach too......and it is amazing how offend democrats get when you protest their shit...yet when they protest the republicans shit it's okay...they flip flop jsut like kerry, maybe that's why they want to vote for him so bad.

and that whole chant about 'no more war' cracks me up. i don't even think many of them know who they're voting for and what their canidate is about. they jsut hate bush with such a passion that they roll with it. i don't choose my vote by hate, i choose it by information. (as with most republicans, although i have grown to hate kerry....but that was his own doing, not the bush party)

That's a complete fallacy asac. This election will be strongly contingent on swing voters. Just check the polls. Now negate the fact that the numbers of such polls can be so innaccurate and skewed for the sake of discussion.

Pre Republican Convention Kerry was in the lead, now post RC and Kerry is losing by nearly the same margin as he was once 'winning' by. Now this does not even slightly guarantee a Bush victory. Keep in mind the RC was after the DC, closer to Election Day, which as we get closer more and more people will begin to be polled and surveyed as they are now more willing and not so 'undecided.' Now, more so than a few months ago people will be more willing to give out their opinion.

Essentially the fact that Bush is leading in the polls guarantees nothing other a large amount of swing votes.

In addition, Bush has the incumbent advantage. He is now presiding over the war himself, and can use that to his advantage. Well timed strikes and mild propaganda could win him favor with the people. Such strikes would also elevate 'war-time' fever giving him a slight swell as far as war time president goes.

Overall this election will be decided by young people and minorities. The middle class whites are staunchly divided with only a small faction of swing voters.

This will be an interesting final few weeks.

And a much more interesting four years.

That is just a small portion. Peopel are claiming everyone from Mexican immigrants to evangelical soccer moms are going to determine the election. Sure that's far fetched and contingency is much broader than any one group; but bear in mind...

Just tune in to CNN or FOX for some 'news breaking election analysis' sure its a little hyped up, but the fact remains, this election is so far from decided its amazing. Maybe thats not a unique situation in and of itself, but our current standing in world affairs only amplifies the descision we will make in the coming months.

I also suggest looking up election maps and checking out who's currently leading (again, according to those pesky polls). A good map will give you guaranteed states for Bush and Kerry and then highlight the swing votes and give calculations for what could happen depending on what states vote for who.

Haha well then Phatz, just revel in the ability to artistically disprove him, rather than abuse him.

Asac, you're not the only one who thinks that way, just do some reading, there's alot going on and 'facts' about this election are changing everyday. Just keep a heads up.

Check out: npr.org, Marketplace, BBC, Atlantic Monthly, The Nation, The Economist, Compassionate Convservative. Those sources will give you highly contrasted views on today's political and economic topics. In addition to well argued point of views and not so mainstream news and analyses.

You know those political polls are complety wrong. SOOOOOOO much error, most dont even post the percent of error. That alone is a big indicator. I laugh when they say that the two are within 5 percent of each other. Most survey's have at least + or - 5% error.

Look at the demographics of republicans. Most are older and are two person income households. Many have good jobs that make them work later in the day. So when they do get home, they only have a little bit of time to spend on their own or with their families. They dont want to spend the time answering surveys for polls. They probably have Caller ID too, so they may just choose not to answer the phone.

Another under-represented group is the 18-25 group. With the advent of Cell phones, it is hard to reach them. Most of my friends, including myself, dont even have a fixed line. It is impossible to reach us.

If you look at the polls as a source to base your statements, you have to look at who they are not surveying. In the past, Democrats have been over-represented.

I think I remember mentioning how inaccurate the polls can be...

Nonetheless they provide somewhat resonable grounds for predictions and numbers.

Fact of the matter, nothing can be told until its through and done, but we have to use what we can get.
