Mind you thats a government website.

In 2002 ( the last full year available) 480 people were murdered with rifles while 929 people were killed with bare hands.

In 2001, 389 people were murdered with rifles while 924 people were killed with bare hands.

In 2000, 396 people were murdered with rifles while 892 people were killed with bare hands.

It might be interesting to know also, that in the years 2000,2001,2002, 7237 people were beaten to death with blunt objects, ( hammers, etc.) or stabbed or sliced to death with knives

Ice-is-scary, look at my previous statement, the point is you have to draw the line somewhere or the laws gets rediculous. Guns serve no purpsoe i nthe household except in order to hunt. (9% of break ins happen when the person is not home and for that other 1%, the robber leaves at the sight of a person, not the sight of a gun. I think the number of lives lost due to missuse of fire arms(even by the intelligent and trustful citizens such as yourself) far outways the number of lives lost due to B&E criminals shooting someone.

Yeah a lot of people die but not even nearly as many people die each year from guns as do. Alcohol, tobacco, wreckless driving, exc.

I believe you are somewhere around 30 times more likely to have you or someone in your family get killed when someone breaks into your house if you have a gun than if you dont own a gun

#1. Guns dont kill people, peopple kill people. stricter gun control laws will lead to more illegal guns, plus without guns, people would just kill people different ways.
#2. murder rates in different countries depend on many factors, so you can not accurately compare europe or canada to the US.
#3. automatic rifles are no more dangerous than any other rifle, they are less accurate and they are reallyonly useful in close quarters combat... in most circumstances it would be much more effective to use a semi auto rifle.

its not a matter of gun control, more of social ideology. compare other countries laws and stats with the US. the states just have more violent ppl i guess.

Whether you are responsible with weapons is not the point, a culture based on the gun is a culture that breeds violence in general. You may not be the problem, but the availability of the gun reduces the stigma of using one against your fellow man.

that being said its impossible now to really take the guns away from law abiding citizens because gun owners treat that as removing safety, and they wont stand for it. They think as soon as they dont have a gun, someone with an illegal gun will come and shoot them. This is the impossible cycle of a gun culture, you need one because everyone else has one, kind of a coldwar idea.

The culture itself hasto be changed, the ideas of what a gun is as an abstract concept need to be changed. The idea of guns is too accepted for much to change as it is.

People are saying that increase gun control will result in more illegal firearms. I say thats good, it is hard enough for the law to put criminals away for a long time. The more laws there are, the more laws criminals have to break and as a result it is easier to put away criminals for longer. You say that illegal firearms will replace legal ones? Saying there are more things i nthe world that kill people than guns is an invalid argument. The point is that people are dying pointlessly. Take cars away, it would have a huge impact on the country and on the economy importantly. Alcohol is also a pointless thing, but when you drink and then die, it is different than little bobby shooting suzie because he got a hold of his dads gun. With alcohol, the person who died is directly responsible for their death, no one is forcing alcohol donw their throay. Guns are pointless in the household, I'll repeat my argument.

Bullshit, Just because its not your hobby doesnt mean its not a valid one. that being said. Yeah lets put stricter punishments on people caught with guns that way we can dump even more money into a 'criminal rehabilitation' program that is already spiraling out of control. Your average criminal can't buy guns legal and those are the facts. By saying alcohol doesnt hurt anyone else so it's not nearly as bad as guns its stupid. More people die every year from drinking and driving than they do from guns. More people die each year from second hand smoke than they do from guns. your arguements are not very well thought-out. The fact is me personally owning a gun puts no ones life in danger. I was taught at a very early age how to use guns responsibly that is where a lot of the problem lies. Parents demonizing guns and they dont know how to use them so they never teach their kids about them. Then when their kid finally gets a hold of one without and proper training he shoots himself. You can talk shit all day on guns all you want but they arn't the problem. Besides, the N.R.A is the most powerful lobbiers in America today so guns are here to stay sorry charlie. As you can read by those statistics, if a person wants to kill someone and they don't have a gun available they arn't just gonna give up. They will find a screw driver, brick, club, cut brake lines, exc. While discussing abortion with someone in another thread they brought up the point 'if you try to make it illegal now it will just move to a black market controlled business' Well the same applies for guns.

Good one, anyway I have a friend who is Danish royality who lives here in Salt lake and runs his parents art dealership. Everything he has told me about Denmark and Danish people in general has been good. He is fairly liberal but also very open-minded and intellgent. I only thought highly of the Danish until I came across your dumbass. You talk about America as if you have lived here and have first hand experiences. That would be like me telling you about Denmark, what to do there, ways to improve your systems, reasons America is better, exc without ever stepping foot in Denmark. Don't buy every single piece of information you read. Also try not to tell black people what it's like being black if your white.

I've stepped foot in the US, thanks. I have relatives who live in the US. The US is the most powerful coutnry i nthe world, so they get the most news coverage, especially if you live in Canada. Unfortunately, Canada is like the 51st state, so thigns in the US directly affect us. Gun control isn't an issue only relevant in the US, people in other countries can have views on it too.

I know that some people might be offended when we in Europe or other countries keep telling the US what to do or what not to do. The reason I keep bothering you, is that in fact, the truth is that US is a very powerful nation, and every single little descision you make, often has enormous effects on the rest of the world... We care about what you do.

Likewise, the US needs to adapt not only yo itself, but also to all these countries that it interacts with, and in order to do so, it would be highly unwise not to listen to what the outside world has to say... really listen.

Im not saying my word is the truth - you can take it or leave it - the only thing I ask is that you stop, listen and think about what the outside world is saying...You are a big, big, big democracy, but also a very young one and you (Americans in general) might have more to learn about democracy than you would like to beleive.

(And im just pissing you of - I don't know whether I would live in America if I could or not)

no, how can you call me a retard when you make a pro gun argument using statistics that you dont even know what EXACTLY they are talking about, and then you say, oh well, i was argueing about the assault weapons ban when in your original post, it never said anything about the assault weapons ban, just about rifels in general. How can you asusme that assault rifels are catagorized as rifels, and not 'other firearms'? when i think of a rifel i think of a bolt action hunting gun. on top of that, you are saying that the lift on the ban wont make a difference and your proof for that is STATISTICS FROM WHEN THE BAN WAS STILL IN PLACE.
