So I've got a bit of cash on hand and I've been wanting for a while to step outside the bounds of lift serviced terrain. I want to get into the backcountry (even though there's not much snow out there this year). I don't want to spend an arm and a leg so I figure I've got a few options as far as gear that I'll need.
Option 1) Buy skins and alpine trekkers for the powder skis I already own and love (<$300)
Option 2) Buy some used tele skis from my shop which is having a sale. I stopped by really quick today and it looks like I could get some skis with bindings for about $350. The problem is that I'd also need to get tele boots, which by the looks of it aren't cheap.
Option 3) Buy some used AT skis from the same shop for about the same price. The only reason I don't really want to do this is that the at bindings that were on their demo skis looked pretty flimsy and I'm 6'1" and 185ish so I I want a solid binding.
Any insight would be appreciated. I'm also willing to explore other options if they're not too pricey.
