So I broke my collarbone about a week ago falling on my shoulder learning 270s on, and I'm going to Whistler March 12th... It basically doesn't even hurt anymore and I've been drinking tons of milk and taking it easy. A quick search gave me stories of people skiing anywhere from 4 weeks to 8 weeks. Do you guys think I'll be fine skiing groomers and pow 4 weeks after the break? I won't be hitting any park, so I think I should be fine, but I figured I'd get some extra opinions. Doctor's prognosis was 4-6 weeks.
I almost put mine through the skin and it took my 7 weeks just to get out of the sling followed by a coupla months of physio to get the muscles back to almost full strength. I'd recommend not skiing or, failing that, taking it super easy. You definitely dont want to rebreak it,
Hmm... mine doesn't feel like a bad break, and it's only been a little over a week and I already feel fine without the sling, so I guess we'll see... thanks guys, I'll definitely be taking it easy - probably won't be leaving the ground at all.
I broke mine on holiday once, hurt like a bitch the first week, second week it was sore, third week I was scuba diving and jumping off cliffs into pools and oceans. 4th week I was on a trampoline.
I reccomend. Arnica 30c (I think thats what its called) Get it from a pharmacy.
Just take it easy, don't do park. and don't crash. you should be fine.
i broke mine a while ago.. so i dont remember the recovery time.
but if you can, maybe get a shoulder brace? that will suppose the weight of your arm/shoulder from the bumps and stuff of skiing.
when i broke mine, it fractured in such a way that i had to wear like a bra type thing(without the cups) to put pressure down on the collarbone sticking up and to hold my arm up.. hope that makes sense..
so maybe you could get something like that. and if you're doing PT by then, keep doing that to strengthen it. they'll prolly give you rubber bands and stuff.
I broke mine and 4 weeks later I was skiing groomers again. I took it easy for the next three weeks after that and then I finally started skiing normal again.
Just take it easy and go at the pace you think your body can handle, everyone heals differently.
it depends. i broke mine in january and was done for the season last season. but mine was really bad, i broke it all the way through and the bone shifted over. did yours break completely in two?
Word. Don't even know how much pow I'll end up skiing anyways, since it'll all be lift-accessed since we're not hiking or anything, we probably won't be going tree-skiing, and definitely depends on how much fresh snow they get...
But I'm 2 weeks into recovery now... Feeling pretty good, except I woke up yesterday and my shoulder was stiff as fuck - felt like a stiff neck after a night of sleeping in a bad position, so I think that's what happened. Still pretty stiff today. Hopefully it feels better soon... if it still hurts in a week I'm definitely gonna go to a doc, but for now I'm just hoping it's no big deal.
Did the same thing 5 weeks ago. Mine broke but the bone was touching where it broke so the doctor said it'd be an easy healing.
4 weeks after (a week ago) i started skiing snowbird in a sling, i didn't really hold back
because i was confident in what i was skiing. After skiing pretty much the whole mountain in a sling for like 3 days we got some snow and i switch to poles and skied pretty hard (no park or anything i wasn't at least 90% sure of) for 6 more days. I even took a pretty good ragdoll out of a shoot and did 2 frontflips and came up a little sore but otherwise fine.
Bottom line go ski and just do what you feel comfortable in. Also learn to do a tuck and spin so you don't land on that shoulder if you fall.
Broke min 6 TIMES! I had to ski 2 weeks after the last one and won the competition. Then I overshot a jump and it hurt. I didn't even fall. So I took it easy for awhile. If I were you I would do a lil trick that the doctor told me. If you can do 30 pushups you are fine.
Hmm, went to the doctor and she said I'll be fine to ski in 2 weeks (4 weeks from the break), but that I should take it easy and take easier runs if possible.
