Let's see... skiboarding presented itself as a winter sport for inline skaters (much as snowboarding is a winter sport for surfers and skaters), and newschool skiing is a direct result of skiboarding, so yes, inline skating has influenced newschool skiing. I don't see anything wrong with that. Whatever inspires people will inspire them...

^^Agreed, I don't think we have a choice as to what gave birth to what we call skiing today, it's not like we're considered above aggro inliners by the mainstream in the first place. If you got a prob you're gonna have to deal widdit.

Its whever you take your influence from. Some try to rollerblade on skis, and others try to snowboard. I just think snowboard style tricks look way sicker.

YES ROLLERBLADERS INFLUENCE SKIING LIKE NO OTHER! Look at any new skating video coming out, youll see the style is nearly identical in several aspects in terms of the body position in spins onto and off of grinds, the types of grinds like iannick's incorporating of backslides, bios were first done on rollerbladers... etc... urban rails

i rollerblade and every single skiier im close with in my crew rollerblades and thats how i got good fast.... skiing is so fucking easy once you can rollerblade good like spinning wise and rail balance wise its just a matter of getting used to grinding on ur bases and not a groove, and spining is easier on skis then skating due to your momentum

grinds are way different skiing to blading. I think its obvious newschool started from snowboarding.

you ficking kids are so damn ignorant. you think just because people look down on rollerbladeing that newschool skiing could never be influenced by it, when in reality it is. it is the same thing. where do you think all the trick names are coming from, zero spin, makio, cork, bio, all were named by rollerbladers. the style is all the same. grinding rails is all the same, where do you tink the makio came from (50-50 for the ignorant kids). all rollerblading. stop trying to do to do things that try to make you cool, like skateboarding for example and saying skiing is not influenced by rollerblading. be fucking proud of it and go buy a pair of skates and learn rails so you can get some quality practice during the summer. all you kids who posted above with a few exceptions should go buy a god damn snowboard.

For the record, I never said anything about rollerbladeing (I was saying that no one snowlerbladed). It's cool, and I really suck at it because in reality the only time i rollerbladed was a few times as a kid. We have lots of similar moves, but we have lots of different moves too. Skiing has been influenced by rollerblading and snowboarding. Both pretty much equaly in the end, I think.

I think if a lot of you were to see a pro skating vid and watch some riders' style on rails, you'd see a lot of similarities between rolling and skiing. If skiers could torque out grinds like royales and farfegnugens without looking awkward on edge, we'd all be worshipping inline style. As it is, we have to make do with flat edges and hunched over steeze, and that's what we're used to seeing.

If you get a chance to see Volume 11, watch Gagnier's profile... he does the first true royale I've seen on skis. It's true skate style and it's fucking dope.

he does and he's awesome on rails. I think rollerblading style looks pretty awesome when people incorporate it into there skiing. I rollerblade and it helps so much with rail balance and its just overall good practice.

actually if you read the article on Chriton (however the heck you spell it) he said he respects rollerbalders and is influenced by them, but doesnt roll. as for the influence thing, yeah, rolling did influence skiing. as did snowboarding (i dont know howkids say skateboarding is their influence for skiing, theyre totally diff) and i think originally the ariel tricks were created by rollers, but then skiing made them their own. as for rails, i think that rolling and skiing have a lot in common. but i also think the things would have developed eventually, but not as quickly as with rollerblading. i think that skiers and rollers are 2 diff entities, unless they do both. and, the only time i incorporate stuff from skating is with rails.

is essence, skiers and rollers are only one in the same if they do both, but a lot of the tricks are the same, and i dont think its a bad thing.

oh, go buy steal rent a new skate video, i suggest Noir, Masters of Dillusion, Intro, or a new vg (#20+) and see what is up with rolling now. and dont say rollers have no style until you see Will Gordon (spining one foot hurricanes on a single barrel, most stylie thing EVER), Brian shima, or the raser twins

yeah blading is cool im my eyes beuase its a sport you can do in the summer and maintain balance and stability. it helps train for the winter and is fun too.

rollerskaters or whateve could never ski a 50 degree alaskan line. i dont care what anybody says. sure if youre sliding rails, your feet arent connected like with rollerblades. but other than that, the comparison is so whack. skiboarding is a lot more like rollerblading. they are both limited to the park, tiny airs, fast spins, technical grinds (yeah i admit, they are really technical) and minimal speed. skiing encompases so much more than what skiboarding or rollerblading could ever achieve. big lines, moguls, trees, powder, the thought of having some kind of spin weight.

plus rollerbladings for fags.

thats true about the amount of air and how steep u can go but were talking about generilazation. both feet are free to do what they want, similar tricks, differnt terrain, 1 summer 1 winter.

i wouldnt go as far saying that bladers are skiers but similar,,, i agree

sorry liam, didnt notice your Sn, ldowny. i just read the article in whatever, and i just remember the question being 'whats one thing you would never do?' 'fruitboot', then he went on to say something about being influenced by it. if dave rolls, more power to him.

and the whole style thing, one of he arguemnets against rolling is that they have no style, which if they saw more than just x-games, they would know.

also, yeah the airs are tiny compared to an 80 ft. cliff, or 110 ft superpark booter, but on skates, ive seen people clear 20-30 long double and triple stair sets. ive also seen carlos pianowski do a backflip from one bowl to another, the gap was a flat surface of concrete. when youre over concrete or stairs, thats pretty crazy.

and no, rollers cant ski a 50 degree alaskan slope, that doesnt exist in an urban setting. but, look at the cover of intro, scott raser is doing a super steep cess slide on the side of an angled building, 3 stories up.

look, surfing, skating and snowboarding are all alike but they are all so fucking different if you really take them into consideration. Same goes with skiing and blading, just because we both have our feet seperated doesnt make them interrelated or influincing of eachother. Whoever the guy with the 40 posts is, dont tell us to pick up a snowboard, why the fuck would we do that? Really, you guys have to think about what you are saying a bit more
