Fashion photographer and filmmaker Jacob Sutton teamed up with pro snowboarder William Hughes for a very special snowboarding shoot.
The video was filmed in the dead of night, at -25 degrees Celsius (-13 degrees Fahrenheit), with the only source of light being Hughes’s LED suit, created by designer John Spatcher.
“I was really drawn to the idea of a lone character made of light surfing through darkness. I’ve always been excited by unusual ways of lighting things, so it seemed like an exciting idea to make the subject of the film the only light source,” said Sutton.
A $58,000 RED Epic camera, which can dish out amazing frame rates at very high resolutions, was used for the shoot, and it shows: the video quality and the fluidity of movement is stunning.
“Filming in the suit was the most surreal thing I’ve done in 20 years of snowboarding,” says Hughes. The resulting video is definitely the most surreal thing we seen lately.
