As well, if you read what I posted, it is not whining about not winning... its pointing out the fact that there are THREE excellent community sites in skiing, and all of them were missed.

Not even acknowledging the community sites would be like ranking "Top internet sites in the world" and conveniently leaving out facebook and Twitter.

Yah, the ESPN article was fairly biased towards Freeskier, but it's not like we have the power to find the guy/girl irl and force a change. Well, there may be some crazy Newschoolers out there.

If anything, you should write a near identical article, but instead be about the quality of sports(?) reviewing sites. Just an idea to kind of say "Fuck you", but in a more formal way.

Really what my beef with the situation was is not the lack of Newschoolers respect, it was the lack of respect for online communities.

Traditional media gets caught up in that all over the place. They're so used to being greek gods talking down to the people, that they rarely even notice that the masses are gathering and sharing. Its completely ridiculous that a journalist could miss out on such an important category as community.

Its a really frustrating point for me, because I deal with it all the time in the business side of NS. Marketing people, media people, and non-community types everywhere simply lack any understanding of the power of online social networks.

I just can't stand to see such irresponsible journalism.

but FWIW I do agree with finding espn at fault on this one. If I remember correctly, and I am not going to the trouble of finding the original article, the title of espn's piece was 'best skiing websites.' Skiing is a predominately social activity. With the exception of powder days, it is something you do with others. When I want to waist my time away online, thinking about skiing I am more likely to find myself on TGR or NS, than say Freeskier, or Powder. You get a wider variety of input, and there is that 'social interaction' aspect to it.

That said, I do find a large portion of what happens on this website, humorous, in a cynical manner.

Are you seriously saying that NS has not been the biggest influence on the freeskiing industry since it started 12 years ago? Nothing else has had as big of an impact on launching random kids careers, starting trends and completely revolutionizing the ski industry as we knew it.

Who cares if some people think that karma is something that matters? Its not like Bishop controls this community using Karma. If some shredding groms think that having a big number beside their username will make them cooler than let them! It is not affecting you so why should you even care?
