Where to mount skis?

This thread is directed to all of you people who know exactly what you're talking about in regards to mounting bindings on to skis.

How much does mounting your skis at a certain location actually change everything? Because for quite a while now, I've just been handing it over to my local shop and letting them take care of it. I am clueless in regards to what center mounting is, etc. and really need to be educated.

If you do park and ride switch= dead center. It makes switch riding easier. If you are riding powder use the powder reference line on your skis. It all depends on what terrain you are riding and preference.

When you take it to your shop they will probably be mounting it at the suggested mounting point from the company. This varies on the type of ski that you buy, but its usually around 4-7cm back from dead center. If you are skiing 100% park I would definitely recommend getting them dead center because not only does it make switch riding a lot easier, it also centers your balance on rails. I got my 2011/2012 chronics mountain -2.5cm back from dead center and you can hardly notice a difference... hope this helps!

go center for any ski that's going to hit the park. pow skis as I understand it generally are best at recommended, unless you're gettin crazy jibby in the bc...thats just from my somewhat limited knowledge though.

last season i think i was around 6cm back, moved em up to dead center, and i love being there. for the switch riding, rails, etc. and also for just carving around i enjoy it

It also depends on the design of the ski.

A ski with a symmetrical sidecut may very well have it's recommended mounting point at dead center.

A question such as yours is case specific.  The most important variable is what the skis were designed to do, followed by what you plan to do with them.
