Where is the best terrain park in China?

It's starting to look like I'll be doing a season in the communist regime of China.

I know most of the lift access terrain over there isn't so good, so I'm wondering where I might find the best terrain park(s).

I do tour, but I probably won't have the opportunity to get to the bigger mountains for the majority of my time there.

Anyway I'm asking about terrain parks.

I live in Shanghai at the moment, I might help you a bit.

I've done a month ski teaching around Beijing a few month ago, in JunduShan. It's about 1h30 away from center but pretty small. 1 black slope which is actually pretty challenging because of the bumps and steepness but the rest is very small green/blue beginners slopes.  They had a small airbag and a shitty box.

Not so far away, there is Nanshang which I heard have a pretty good terrain park sponsored by Nike, check it out.

Or go up in Heilongjiang. in Yabouli which is an actual mountain with real snow and more than 5 slopes. No idea about a park tho.

Enjoy, China is amazing.

Serious answer: mellow parks at nanshan. I was there last winter for a month. about an hour from Beijing and you can take a bus that the mountain arranges. Sick park and a sick crew. A mix of Chinese pros and ex pats from australia and the us. One problem, their spring begins about now. They'll probably be closed early next month. While I was there some Japanese guys said mellow parks was better than anything in Japan. mellowparks.cn and shredderr.cn

I can't help you on the terrain parks, but I've been to china a couple times. Its an awesome place, the culture is incredibly vibrant and the people are all super cool and friendly. The food is the best part though, sooooo good.

This is where the Chinese team does most of their training when at home so I would imagine they build something pretty sweet for them.

I probably wouldn't even look anywhere else for a park.

I wonder if people will even feel safe going to the olympics in China. There are still 2 Canadians who got “arrested” there and they won’t let them go. Probably won’t release them until we give back Huawei’s ceo

Assuming you're starting in Beijing,

Beijing Huaibei International Ski Resort. There is (or was) a really cheap daily shuttle off a railway stop. The bottom half of the mountain is like 15,000 Chinese tourists in matching outfits taking videos like 1 meter away from each other. Highly recommend at least once to experience the chaos of the rental shop.

But yeah, the top half is badass Olympic training stuff that's untouched and like a showy thing to hype the games.


Also in Beijing, and the ski resort I was living by, accessible by rail + taxi, is 军都山滑雪场 .
That one is a little gem 🥰.


The absolute best one is way up North in Harbin: Yabuli. Really, this is where the Olympians are actually training. Harbin is super cool altogether and worth a visit.


Gulmarg is cheap to get to as well. I bought my round trip ticket from Shanghai to Bangkok to Srinager for about $350.


Pro tip for traveling through China:
Book everything (always with trip protection) through the English portal on Ctrip. You can call the phone number for the help line, and they immediately answer with a bilingual rep who can translate over the phone anything regarding your bookings.

When you arrive to China, first thing, you will want to go to a flea stall mall and get a cheap cell phone with a prepaid card with 200RMB in minutes and data. That's about 3 months worth if you are sparing with your data.

Pleco translator app is the best one.
