Noob gear help

new to NS and freestyle. i've read old reviews on gear you guys prefer and i need help picking between a few options.  i'm 5'8"/185 and ski anything on the mountain except for park, which i'm trying to get into now. wanted advice choosing between a used pair of line afterbangs w/ salomon driver bindings for $350 or ordering a new pair of either volkl walls with jesters (~$500) or k2 press/4frnt click (same price) w/ marker free 10's for $400.

any of these worth it or am i looking at the wrong stuff all together? thanks.

This thread probably belongs in 'Gear Talk', but seeing as you're new here we'll let you off.

The best thing to do is to try out the different skis and find out which one's you're most comfortable with, everyones different and different skis suit different ski styles. If you're not sure whether you're going to really get into park though it might be a good idea to get the used pair as they're cheapest, but only if they're in a decent condition. Hope this helps.

don't get k2 press's, they're far too flimsy, and definately don't get marker free 10 bindings. I've heard volkl walls are pretty good though, but I have no personal experience, if you aren't an aggressive skier jesters MAY be a bit of a high din binding, see if you can demo some skis before you buy some.

the k2's for how cheap they were seemed too good to be true. sorry about posting in the wrong spot. unfortunately i'm in NC which doesn't really have the demo options nicer ski areas might be used to. i'll prob have to buy then try.  i ski salomon lords now and love them, but i don't want to destroy my all mountain ski on the rails as i learn.

well if you have lord's then all you need is a beater ski for LEARNING park. Don't buy new cause people new to park destroy skis quickly. buy really cheap planks for a year or two and then get better ones when you know what your doing.

k2's are not shit. for the price point, they're great skis and they cover a broad range of styles. presses are flimsy because THAT'S HOW THEY WERE DESIGNED. literally, they were MADE to be flimsy. don't buy them if you don't want a flimsy, tip/tail rockered, zero camber ski.

are you looking for just a park ski or do you want something that skis park and all mountain? do you prefer a stiff ski, soft ski, or something in the middle? do you like fat skis or skinny skis? it's pretty hard to just recommend a ski without more info from you. height/weight don't really matter all too much with park skis, a lot of it is based off of preference.

if it's your first park ski, you will beat them to shit a little quicker than the smoother folk. you might want to look in the sub $400 range. spending $500ish on a pair of nice park skis might be a bit foolish since you're going to destroy them your first season skiing park. not to mention most expensive park skis are stiffer and have fast bases on them, they're geared more towards hitting big features.

this would be just a park ski. i love my lords for all mountain, and would use whatever i buy now on the shitty hills here in NC where I'm mainly doing park.

def something in the middle in terms of flex. i started on rails and boxes and want to progress in those types of skills first before moving to jump stuff, but i want to try to learn buttering into rails and on the ground too. and i like fat-ish (88+) skis.

I learned to ski on chronics, they will always have a soft spot in my heart. And it took me three seasons to break them, so plenty durable for learning rails.
