Official "Which skis should I get" Thread

I'm sick of all the threads saying "which skis do I get", "what length", and all that crap. Not sure if there's already a thread like this, but post all of your questions here, using the same format and information you would in your own thread, and we will do the best we can to try and answer you.

Hi,

I'm 5'4" and 122lbs. I'm currently riding 155cm Atomic Punx which seem pretty good in the park but they do feel pretty damn small. But I bloody hate them on anything but perfectly groomed piste, when edging hard they just go all over the place. My mate says it's a mix of them being short and soft.

So I'm looking for a stiffer ski that is going to be a bit better on piste but still good in the park. I ski mainly park but have to ski some grim piste to get to the chairlift, and I like to occasionally have a buzz around the mountain as well. I don't need a full on all mountain ski as I have some Obsetheds for powder etc. I have just started park this season and am doing 360s off jumos, 360s on boxes etc, that kind of level.

Mainly looking at the http://www.sport-conrad.com/Skis/395 website as they do some good deals for Europe. I was looking at AR7s but they only have 161s in stock and I'm thinking I might want to go slightly longer than this?

What do you think of Rossignol Scratch Pros? Would they suit what I want them for? Do you think the 160 or 167 would be best? I'm thinking 167. Also looking at K2 Sights but there is no inbetween size between 159 and 169 so not sure what size I would get.

Other options are:

Armada El REys
LIne Step UP
Anything else you guys think of

Hello again, I have finally narrowed it down between two skis, the El Rey or the K2 Recoil. "I am a beginner in park/pipe. I have been skiing for quite sometime now and as far as mountains go i can do like all blacks and ive even been out to Colorado, breck and copper, and i can handle the blues and some easy blacks. But ive been doing mountain for so long im bored and im really into freestyle now. I am 6'0 and weight about 195 lbs. Ive been doing a lot of research and this is what i have narrowed it down to. I basically want a good all mountain ski, like 60-70% park 40-30% mountain, that i can get some good years out of for a reasonable price." And atm I cannot side between the k2 recoil or the armada El Rey. If anyone has had any experience with these skis please tell me what you think. Thanks +kkkk

Hey guys. I am currently on a set of 2008 suspects which are starting to come apart. So, I'm in the market for new skis. I'm new into park, I'm not interested in pipe. I'm hitting up to 25ish foot jumps and some rails. But I mainly ski all mountain, but I have a set of Black diamond killowatts for a powder/hiking ski. My price point on just skis is $4-500. I'd like them to last 3-5 seasons with learning abuse with 30-50 days yearly. Currently I was looking at volkl walls, but I'd be open to recommendations. Thank you.

the recoil is more of an advanced ski than the el ray imo, and since your are skiing all-mountain I would go with the recoils also. They're on sale at evo for $399 right now if that helps

yeah i know they're on sale for $399 but aren't the armada el reys an all mountain ski as well? I wanna go with the el reys but im just worried that it might be too stiff or that it might have durability problems since is a price pt ski. Those reasons are making me lean towards the recoil. I just want to make the right decision and not have regrets.

I'd personally go with the recoils. one of my friends had them last year for his first year of park and skiiing in general, he loved them. not sure about the el rays though... can anybody help this guy out?

I have been skiing for about 12 years now, and I am pretty advanced. I have only skied the mountain and pow. I was looking to get into the park. I was looking at the Salomon 2012's, Armada AR7, or K2 Recoil. Which one? Also which size, I'm 5'3" and 115 pounds. Thanks.

Well, You want a soft or a stiff ski? Rocker or camber or both ? Me i really like my 2012's, they are soft but they hold very well on groomers and pow.

Those look to be purely park skis. How well would they hold up on groomers, steeps and bumps?

Well they are for sure more meant for park. I have two other majesty suggestions for you if you want something that is more of an all rounder.

The Local hero's are skinnier underfoot, 82 to be exact. They will be much better on the groomers and in the park. The vandals are 92 underfoot and are meant for a total all mountain shredder. They can take you from the park to the backcountry and are a much more general ski. The same code apply's to all of these. Hope this helps

I ski mainly park, but I love to hop around, nollie, and just generally play around with my skis. I currently ride 181 Moment Reno Rockers and I love them. I will probably buy new skis next year, but I want them to be on the cheaper side. I'd like something k2, but I figured I'd ask you guys.

well if your leaning towards k2, I'd either go with the recoil, domain, sight, or press. I've heard really good things about the recoil, and they are on sale right now on most websites for around $399 (evo).

the only thing about the press is that, unlike the other 3 mentioned that are rocker/camber/rocker, the press is rocker,flat, rocker... If you are going for a bit of a softer ski with more flex I would either go with the domain or press. The sight and recoil are both more of an all-mountain ski compared to the domain and press. hope this helps

whats happening. As of right now I'm recovering from a pretty bad knee injury, fractured patella and torn acl, and I'm looking to get some new pow boards for next season. I've been riding SFB's for the past 4 seasons but they have basically no flex left cuase I'm way too big for them. I was wondering if a longer, stiffer ski would be better for the knees, and if so I'd be looking in the 190+ range (I'm 6'4 190lbs). If y'all got any suggestions for skis or any input on pow sticks that are "healthier(?)" for your knees I'd appreciate the input.

I'm thinking about purchasing Line Blends as my all-mountain ski and as a ski I'll take out West for a week in March. What length should I get? I'm 5'8 130lbs. Or, does anyone else have any other suggestions for an all-mountain ski that does well on hard-pack, trees, a bit of pow, and the occasional park jump? I have a dedicated pair of park skis so they don't really have to perform well at park if they do well in everything else.

Been skiing for 3 years just got into park this year. Im bout 5'11" and around 145 lbs. Plan on doing a lot more park nextyear and ive been looking for a good ski around 350 or 400 dollars, also been looking at the new k2 press but def open to ideas

At ur weight go with the Armada El Rey, its more durable, light, stiff, and just an overall better ski than the k2 press. And at Untracked.com u can get the El rey for 349$. Its Armada's price point ski for park/pipe and all mountain, and imo its better than k2's press price point park ski.

if your going with the blend, I'd get 178. It would do better in pow than the 173, more sturdy on jumps and you'd probably benefit in the all-mountain aspect as well.

Ok I am new (just joined today) and I did not see this thread when making mine. I am very sorry and hope that I don't have a bad reputation because of it. I ski in the northeast and am looking for some park skis good with both rails and jumps. I have only been skiing park for about 1 1/2 years. I got 2011 k2 bad seeds last year (149's). I am about 5'5 and 115 lbs. I heard that I should get either atomic punx or salomon suspects. Opinions?

Whatever you do don't get the salomons they have tons of durability issues. They are great park skis and thats why you see skiers like Bobby Brown with them, but also bc theyre free for him. He can break as many pairs as he wants. And ive done a lot of research on them and they supposedly break very easy. That being said your better off with the atomics, Id also check out the Armada El Rey for your size i think it'd be a nice ski.

hi,
I'm 5'7, 130 and I ski 80-90% park, the rest is groomers and trees.
I have narrowed it down to 176 Halo's, 176 Alpha 1's, 176 Filthy Riche's and the new Chronics (idk what size)
I am a fairly good skier, i used to race, and am decent at park (cork 7, rodeo 5,7, k feds, 2 on, misty 4 out, claim/)
I ski about 60% jumps and 40% rails in the park.
The jumps I will be usualy hitting max out at about 35 feet (our park sucks), but I do head up to MSLM ocasionally, and Tremblant once a year and have no problem handeling the "big" jumps.
The rails are standard at our hill (urban styled down rails, flat bars, tubes, etc...) and i can handle most rails anywhere.

id assume so since theyre very durable i cant say for sure, i dont have them but i did a ton of research on them because i was about to buy them but i realized they're too soft for my weight.

If it were me personally, I would look past those. I would look into some Majesty Vandals. They are made exactly for that and have great reviews. They also look sick...

188 pounds

I live on the east coast and primarily ski there but go out west 4-6 weeks per year (Alta, Taos, Jackson, usually somewhere in Colorado). At home I ski all over the mountain (groomers, glades, bumps) and a little bit of park (85% to 15% respectively) and when I ski park I usually ski jumps (no more than 5's/sw 5's, backflips, etc). When I am in the rockies I almost never ski park.

I already own some Bent Chetlers and AR7s. I am looking for an all mountain ski that can still handle itself in the park. Basically I am looking to almost replace the AR7s with something stiffer, wider, and longer. I understand that both the skis may be a little bit short for me and I am open to other suggestions.

i'm looking at the 193 Nordica Patron, 186 On3p Jmo, the 186 Jeffery, and the 189 Kung fujas

keep in mind i used to race (usually GS)...so i do like to open up on big, wide runs

line chronics. I was in almost the exact situation as you, wanted a bit of a wider, longer, and stiffer ski than the AR7 and so far they're working out great for me!

Im looking at buying a new powder ski and ive been thinking about the 4frnt crjs. im 5'9 and 155, i like to hit drops and i ski alot of back country. would the 188s be too much ski for me or should i get 180s? i found a good deal on a pair of 188s and im thinking about snaggin em but i cant decide if i should hold off for a pair of 180s
