Help with boarding school?

Don't piss off the older guys. Unless you are the boss then piss off whoever you want, but in all seriousness it's not that bad just can be annoying with everyone in such close quarters and not much privacy. You will be good it can be quite fun.

where are you going? that has a lot to do with it, but generally with new england prep schools:

1. sports rule. kids who are good at mainstream sports are cool
2. relationships are not normal. you don't go on dates, you don't get to know girls, you awkwardly hook up for unset periods of time. the hotness of the girl depends on how good you are at lacrosse and how well you dress
3. you don't party. you sneakily binge with one or two other people
4. your teachers are excellent resources, but they will not offer help until you seek it out
5. every other new kid is in the same situation as you. play that to your advantage and you'll make friends in no time
6. the upperclassmen seem a lot older than they are. when you're in their position you'll realize. goes true for any school, but kids mature slower in boarding school
7. along the lines with 6, most of the kids at the school will fail at basic living skills. your ability to function in the real world will not give you status
8. be involved. as hard as it can be sometimes, show your face as much as possible. everybody will learn your name if you put yourself out there

sounds stereotypical and bad, but i spent 4 years at a prep school and i'm very glad i went. i made some awesome lifelong friends and, contrary to number 2, i met a great girl

this is pretty much spot on. don't sit in your room on the weekends and play games on your computer, go out and do stuff. meet people and find a good group of friends. don't act like you're fucking awesome and that you've been at the school for 4 years already, because you will get shit on. the thing i hate most is when new kids come into school and they act like they own the place. pay your dues so to speak. learn to deal with people effectively-- don't just rant about them behind their backs. if they, for example, take an xbox controller from your room without asking and it pisses you off, tell them, or else they'll keep doing it. lastly, DON'T be fucking stupid about your use of illegal substances. if you're gonna do it, be super careful and make sure you have your shit under control. i've seen too many kids go overboard and get kicked out because its so obvious that they're fucked up. its really not worth it. just have fun, meet some good friends, and be social. the last thing you want to be is some hermit who jacks off in his room on a friday night while you play cartoon dress up online.

what gator said is all absolutely correct. i went to private school for 4 years and they are very strange communities. but youre going to school with a bunch of elitists (maybe yore one of them, it doesnt matter) so they tend to be really judgmental and hard to impress. so the best thing you can do to be cool and get girls to notice you is to not give a fuck what they think and d whatever you want. unfortunately i didnt figure that out till my senior year, and as soon as i did i went from being a shy little loser to hooking up with the hottest girls in school. its all a game, man, and it sucks if you play by the rules.
