Title says it. It happens sometimes, only after I do alot of running, mainly in the gym. I was recently running in the gym for around 5 or 6 hours (school wake-a-thon) and soon after I got a really bad pain in my right heel that hasn't gone away yet, I've had it since Friday night. It got a little bit bettter, but got really bad again today after gym. It's only my right heel. Just an intense pain around the back, really hurts when I walk, and also when I touch it. Any advice NS?
Had this when I played football awhile ago, the disk in my heel got fucked up but get some doctor scholls they helped a lot. When you run do you tend to land on your heel the hardest?
It's called "severs disease." The pain occurs because in the age range of 12-15, you body is still developing, in your foot, your heel bone and out bone have not yet merged. The extended physical activity cause the out bone to rub against your heel causing the pain. It may also occur under or around your ankle.
I used to have it, but grew out of it this year, it was extremely intense during soccer due to the constant pounding on rock hard fields in November.
I found foot beds help, as well as those small gel wedges that slip into your shoes in the heel, which are much cheaper and can be bought for your ski boots, cleats, or sneakers.
Hope I helped man, i used to have it really bad, but the only cure is time.
Deffinately invest in running shoes (I recommend zig techs because they are like 80 dollars and have good support) also get some kind of pad for the inside and try not to hit your heels so hard when you run. Skate shoes are deffinately not helping this situation lol
I had this from when I was 10 until like 15. It's a bitch to deal with. I never actually saw a doctor, but I had the gel inserts and they helped a bit. I have heard that they are basically just growing pains.
Doctor's wont do anything, i went and saw my family PT guy and all he could do was ice it up, which subsided the pain for a few days, but as soon as I got back into soccer it came back.
Some things I did on my own that helped though:
Stretching!
- Place both palms on a wall, and lock your arms, then place both feet about shoulder width apart roughly. Next, slide the foot that is in pain, about 6 inches farther away from the wall, and keep sliding it outward, while keeping your whole foot on the ground. You should feel some gentle tension on you achilles tendon, just remain in that stance for 30 seconds, take a 15 second break, and repeat with either for for 3 more reps. I never did the full 4 reps though, i usually did 2.
Icing!
- Fill a large zip-lock bag, and rap it around your achilles tendon, and at the curve of your heel.
^^Lol relax, kiddo. He had some heel pain after running around for 6 hours in shitty shoes. No need to jump to conclusions and assume he has some foot disease. OP, wait it out and see if it feels better, and if the pain persists go see a doctor. He knows a hell of a lot more than some random NSer.
I actually wear Sanitas, your gf probably knows about those, I just said danskos for simplicities sake. Its a good thing they are common in my work environment cause they dont really win me any style points and its awfully emasculating to wear them...but they do feel good.
Get better shoes, asics have like 2 inches of straight heaven to protect your heels, and keep weight off your foot. If you still have issues after that see a podiatrist (i think thats what foot doctors are called), they can hook you up with custom molded inserts that will help a ton.
i'm not an athletic trainer, or a doctor, nor do i really have any idea what i'm talking about
but
might be pronation, which is when the outside of your heel strikes the ground first and then your foot rolls from there. plenty of people do it. the nike lunar series shoes are perfect for it, plus they look baller.
again, i don't know what i'm talking about, just a slightly educated guess.
This. Definitly sounds like heel spurs. I used to have them from running in lacrosse and basketball and they hurt like a bitch. Take a pool ball or any kind of small hard ball and roll it under your foot at night. It will losen up the muscles and it hepls the pain greatly. When I had them I also got custom molded footbeads for my shoe and between those two things the spurs went away.
