but honestly i would have to say a downhill race. if things don't feel right on a slopestyle course you can skip a jump or do an easier trick or whatever. but if something doesn't feel right on a downhill course, too fuckin bad your already going 70mph
I don't know man. Downhill gets pretty gnarly. My whole life I've had a deep down urge to put on a speed suit and give downhill a go. Straight lining steep icy groomers gets the heart pumping pretty good.
Trying a new spinny flippy for the first time gets the heart going too, don't get me wrong...
now that I think of it - stupid to try and compare the two.
i've raced super-g but never a legit downhill course, and i've never done a slopestyle comp but i've been through kings crown in pc so those are both decently comparable. have you seen downhill racing crashes? they are beyond gnarly
ever gone 80mph off a roller launching 80-100ft to a solid ice landing on 210+ cm skis? its quite the adrenaline rush, and crashing will hurt far more then in the park
Let me rephrase this question... What takes more balls? Going down a hill in super skinny tightsuits making some turns, or dropping into a superkicker where you have to always keep spotting your stuff so you dont die? I personally think slopestyle
you left out the part where "going down a hill" means insanely steep pitches that are basically hard as rock and "making some turns" involves going 70+ mph. downhill for me for sure
At fucking insane speeds, on a sheet of ice where if you lose focus you could fly 100+ feet through the air to fucking death. There are no water ramps or airbags in downhill to practice on.
downhill there is almost no room for error its 70+ mph to rag doll in .004 seconds. there is no saving it once you lose control..Im not saying crashes arent bad in slopestyle but if i had to choose knuckling a 60 footer or going 75mph over a blind roler off balance..... i think i choose knuckling
however, in a downhill course you have the option of going slow. you can slide around every turn and double turn in between, hell you can do a wedge down the whole thing. but in a slopestyle course you have to commit to hitting big fucking jumps or else youre gonna lose some teeth. but from the perceptive of a pro in each discipline im sure downhill takes more mettle. i bet tom wallisch throwing a few double corks is way more comfortable than ted ligety going for gold at kitzbehul.
thats not true. You could go slow and avoid the jumps in a slope course. thats basically the same as doing a pizza down a downhill course. I do agree with the last part of your post though.
