shitty thread is shitty....

I dont think you can really hate on people who ski like this to win comps, im sure most of the top slope skiers (bobby b, nick goepper etc) have the ability to make tricks crazy stylish but choose to lay down super clean runs for competitions because that is what judges like to see.

its all about progression, there are some people who are progressing the style side, and some people progressing the technicality side of the sport, you just have live wiht the both....

if you don't like comps watch edits, that's what i'm doing

i just hope in the future it doesn't develop to companies only sponsoring comp skiers cause they are all over the tv in the olympics

shit like this actually really pisses me off. brown and skiers like him do in fact have style and it is extremely clean. just because he doesnt dress like a thug and do safeties doesnt mean hes a bad skier. and watch any of his edits and he can do a large number of grabs.

The difference is is that Wallisch is unbelievably clean with everything he does but it looks really good. Brown and goepper are clean but it doesnt look good

Im getting sick of spin to wins.

robots performing in front of a pannel of math judges who simply calculate the amount of total spin and flip ratio.

Fuck getting judges, lets just get math teachers to grade slopestyle now, no one will be allowed to dissagree, all of the calculations will be on paper.

hey that run was garbage he flailed the whole way and didnt grab. he even did a revert to go into switch!

THE NUMBERS DONT LIE! he clearly won by a total of 180 degrees!

that 180 was a revert!

you can land a switch 1080 or a double cork with style, you dont have to look like b dog. Its called being comfortable and displaying ease instead of proficiancy.

I think thats the issue. We have two riders today as examples... tom wallisch and Bobby brown.

when they do the same trick, to me toms will look 100% better every time. because he doesnt move his shoulders at the exact moment he needs them to or twist his head routinely. he feels his trick and lays it down. you can tell he isnt thinking about anything.

Bobbys trick, although 100% clean, will not look hucked but you can tell that he concentrates realy hard on doing exact movements at the exact time necessary rather than feeling the moment. He lands it to perfection but when you realy pay attention its not as effortless.

This is what the pioneers broke away from when our sport started. They left the acrobatic mindset because its not what were about.

Now it seems that a lot of guys like tom wallisch have been landing high calibre tricks because they are comfortable going there and making it look sick. Because of that skiers who want to compete like goeper or brown, they practice and practice the movements of the tricks so that they can compete. They aproach it on an acrobatic level to try and compete with someone so comfortable that he does it on a style level.

Whats frustrating is that these acrobatic style skiers who aproach it as an exact trick and not a feeling or style, they are the ones who are seen as superior in competitions when they are the followers.

I actually really agree with that.  It's very clear that bobby spends so much time on the tramp, but  i'm sure wallisch does too. It's all so subjective though.  While ski racing sucks because of suits and the "racer fag" stigma it has with it, it's great because you are only judged by the clock, not someone elses opinion. 

Everyone has different opinions on who rides the best in slope. Judges have a hard job.

I respect him as an athlete, can recognise his amazing skills but I dont enjoy watching him. Its nothing against the guy, its probably because he represents a direction that I think skiing should not be taking.

And to  be honest I would way rather watch tom and henrik any day over bobby and nick.  I think what I like about watching them is that they bring new creative tricks to the table,  especially hendrik.  That double flat 10 was fucking ill.  favourite comp trick all year.

^ for what? To show everyone how to not set tricks by making windmill gestures with your arms? Smooth in the air, great awareness, and solid grabs....and yet nowhere near the level of flawlessness of someone like Wallisch.

And, this whole argument about "oh, you only think Goepper/Brown/etc. aren't steezy because they don't wear tall tees" is fucking stupid. Clearly Bobbo and Goepper and Henshaw blah blah are dope, really talented skiers, but if you can't see a clear difference between them and some of the guys pushing the sport on the execution, style side you just aren't very perceptive.

That's why bode miller is the shit. All uniform technique out the window and kills it.


All i know is that if you're landing in a switch recovery wedge on every trick you land switch, even 270's out of rails, you're not as controlled or as comfortable as those landing feet parallel in a carve. You're rotation has to be perfect. The switch wedge allows u to under/over rotate. Same thing goes for speed checking in a wedge, sorry, you're not as comfortable as those speed checking feet parallel. AND, setting tricks w/ a 4ft wide stance instead of a carve, sorry, you're not as comfortable. Brown, Goepper, Carlson (1/2 the time), henshaw, and hatveit do this constantly. They are all such incredible skiers but the control and comfort guys like casabon, henrik, wallisch, and wells show by taking off and landing in a carve on every single hit as well as speed checking like a good skier instead of some 12yo learning how to ski switch in the park is what sets them apart imo.

no i mean i am a huge fan of henrik and bdog and especially wallisch (even though hes sorta in between brown and those guys) i just think its unfair to shit on such amazingly talented skiers because you think you style isn't "cool". i definitely don't want slope and big air to turn into arials but honestly i think their grabs are super stylish. and as far as judging is concerned people like bdog, henrik, jf houle, chris logan etc. who have an emphasis on style still can do really well in comps when they put together solid runs. i think people are freaking out over nothing. We may see a really negative shift towards acrobatics after a few olympics but i really don't think its an issue yet.

furthermore, as far as goepper is concerned, his landing on the 14 was kinda sketch, but his switch 2 on rod 4 out was fuckin sick, and his switch dub 10 japans look almost identical to wallisch's, so i really dont get where the hate comes from.

i cannot stand goeppers style on rails. dude kills it, but keep your fucking arms down ya goon. he looked epileptic on those 4 ons. i do believe that henrik and phil have better style than goepper and brown, but not because their clothing is tall. you know who else i believe has better style? lolo favre. dude wears a shmedium and i fucking love the way he rides because it's something different. it is HIS OWN style and he's doing what he wants to see with the sport. as well as sam hurst, and plenty of others. clothing size =/= best style and neither do comp results.

It's probably along the same lines with the whole Shaun White 100 issue. A run that was worse than the previous one gets a better score, don't make no sense.

I thought the trick looked like ass, and I thought he was overscored, but I do respect the fact that he was sitting in 1st and still went out and pushed for something bigger. Says a lot about his character.

I think Van Valin said it very well, he was mixing up known killer tricks in the jumps from two great comp skiers, with his own flair on the sw 2 misty off on the cannon box.

But as weak as the course was, Wallisch's pretzel on that cannon rail was pretty damn awesome.

Goepper did what he had to do to win knowing how the current judges score contests..... I dont know how kids can knock him for that. His run wasn't my cup of tea or the best in my mind (especially his 2nd) but he's a fucking great competitor and pushed his 2nd run even harder while sitting on a 94, still think t-wall should have won with his first run, but goepper seems like a pretty legit kid and competitor.
