definitely was some beautiful shots in there, scenery was gorgeous

i do wish you mixed in some normal speed shots with your conformed shots, it seemed to lag on, for lack of a better word

wow dude that was awesome, ..only thing i'd even say is the logos at the end are pretty random and aren't affective( as far as "marketing") should have put them in the beginning..but who relly cares about logos..that was an awesome edit

I liked that a lot. However I would make some of the cuts a little closer to the actual tricks. The shot at 2:00 seemed to drag on forever before the skier actually got in the frame.

Nice work zac, looking good. I still think some of the random jump cuts and fast forward (only like 1 or 2) were a little out of place to me. Some of the shots were way too wide too, i dunno how far away you were/what lens you were using but they just seemed too wide IMO. Otherwise though, some amazing shots, makes me wanna get a new tripod. Using mine this weekend was fucking painful.

I also agree with others about the conformed shots. I know that slow motion looks really good, but i'd love to see you pick a fast paced song and shoot similar shots and do it normal speed.

Evan pretty much touched on everything I was going to say. For this song, I don't think the glitchy speed ramps and cuts fit well at all. For example, that first shot of the subject hiking would have been beautiful as a single continuous shot, rather than cutting it a few times (my opinion). Also, as stated above, the mix of shots and angles was great!

I also agree with Landis on your overall quality of production now. Which tripod did you end up going with again?

Man, your edits are good, but they are so predictable. Honestly I haven't been impressed since the sandy boville edit. change up your game and challenge yourself kid.

Speed up your shots. Knock off the slow motion intro/hiking thingers. You do it in every edit and it is so cliche.

Also some of your cuts are very forced. I know you only have one camera, so when you piece together two different angles of the same trick, to me it seems very cheesy and fabricated. In my opinion you can get away with this if you're a ninja, but you shouldn't do it multiple times.

The shots where the skier disappeared behind the tree, and when you couldn't see him because of the lip also bugged me. i like to see landings.

i know a lot of this is just opinion based, but to me your edits are very annoying and repetitive.

your equipment costs more than my car and you're apparently surrounded by talented skiers. you have all the tools man, now you just gotta challenge yourself.

I think this also has to do with the song just stopping in the middle of a word... also the ending logos/audio comes in really fast, so you don't really get any closure from the edit.

Going along with what kelly said here..

your equipment doesn't exactly cover the cost of my car, but its severely close. i think once you are able to get a license and drive and buy a car for yourself, you will learn the value of money.

i recently had to spend over 800 on a problem with my car, that otherwise un fixed would leave me with a useless car. so yes, i could have spent that 800 and boughten an L series glass, but i had to spend it otherwise.

just food for thought

one other thing i notice is the intro with the film audio and the logo kinda flicker up and down real quick. I notice you and eheath both do this, just curious how it came about and why you're both doing it

I did it to start a "brand image" for myself, having something that people could recognize in all of my videos. So, when someone sees my bumper/intro on my video, they know I made it. How DTF's ended up being like mine, i dunno if he played off mine or did it himself, but i did my for my first edit in late november and his first edit with his intro was early december. He also told me he didn't try to copy me.

i liked it, the individual shots, color correction and skiing were amazing!

this is all my opinion

it was a bit boring to be honest, i think the music didnt really go that well, when the rapping came it i just felt as it was ruined, the whole video was a little too slow, all of your edits seem to be in slow mo now, getting a little old and i felt some of the shots just dragged on

but none the less, great video, better than i have been able to do

i believe the idea behind it is that it's kind of supposed to be mimicking a 16mm projector. a lot of us have played around with that effect at some point over the past couple years, it's pretty fun

just because zac has a nice setup doesn't mean he doesn't appreciate it/realize how lucky he is.




i love this edit zac, one of your best yet in my opinion. i guess a lot was in slow motion, but i don't know why this is a surprise to people considering that's how your edits have basically always been. you did a great job finding unique shots in the pipe, and your tripod stuff is getting more and more on point. i also love the colors. there are a couple shots where they were still a little flat, but for the most part it looked great.

I think the main reason people get turned off by slow motion is because it makes you use longer cuts. Of course, you could keep the cuts short and concise, thereby keeping the footage interesting, but then people will bitch about not showing the entire trick.
There's no winning with you sports people, is there?

The most contradicting paragraphs.

How am I suppose to show a landing without cutting it to another shot?
Their are no spots in the park that I can film landing and takeoffs from unless its the knuckle witch is a super boring plain shot.

I dont know how to please you guys cause when I try I get more torn apart. Whatever, I cant really do much about it besides keep shooting. Ill do my thing and you can do yours.

Not contradicting, you just missunderstood.

The first paragraph is about you cutting together two different shots and trying to play it off as one trick. I've noticed you do this is in other edits and its always bugged me. This is fine to do when it's a clean cut, but sometimes you get pretty lazy and the two shots don't quite match up. In one of your edits you even cut from a wide shot of a right-side 2 on to a close up of a left-side crown or something, i forget the exact trick. To me, that's just cheating. Not saying I'm not guilty of doing this as well, but there is a time and a place.

My next point was simply that I didn't like those two shots. A tree got in the way of the skier and I didn't like that.

Not trying to tear you apart, just trying to point out a few things other than how good your colors are or how sick your new tripod is. Take it or leave it.

i personally love your slow-mo simply because i have seen edits from you that have been completely in real time.



Keep doing what you do and keep experimenting, i don't think you have ever produced an edit that wasn't entertaining!

Didn't like:

- Projector sound at the beginning (Though I was watching an eheath edit for a second)
- Poor vector tracing of your logo's (probably used livetrace)
- Awkward/late cuts
- Song
- Size of subject in the frame (consistently far away in your videos)

Liked:

- Tripod
- Lots of Varied, different, and Interesting ways of composing your shots, have not seen much of that style in ski videos before
- Grade

I would be interested to see what you can produce outside of action sports.

A lot of people are mentioning that they would like a more fast paced edit, but I like that you chose a slower pace and stuck with it, rather than having it pick up at some point.

I definitely think there is room for a slower paced edit like this, and if I were to imagine a slower paced edit, this would be it!

You stay consistent throughout the edit, the song you picked (in my opinion) matches the pace of the edit and I think that is what really reveals the message you're trying to send. There are tons of edits out there that are fast paced, to gangster rap (don't get me wrong I love them too) that make us seem baller - or whatever you wanna call it, but I think your video takes us past that to why we all do it. It shows the beauty of the nature and the beauty of the sport, AND still throws in some of the gansta.

So in my opinion, I think it's awesome!
