Park Passes at Resorts

Doing some research. Does your resort implement a park pass? Do you pay extra for it? Revenue? Worth it? Looking or some park managers or other level of management on this. Input from riders is great too, mainly looking for what mountain, park pass yes and cost of any.

Yes, no it's free just have to do a survey, Yes noticeable change of the amount of gappers in the park

Nope none that I go to need a special park pass. I don't think I'd like that too much at all. If I recall correctly Winter Park had you either take a class or get a pass or something along those lines to hit their big jump line (called dark territory I believe). I'm not 100 percent I have only been there like three times and that was about three years ago. I spend my time at keystone and breck and neither of them require a special park pass.

Didn't even think of this aspect. I suppose if it was a 5 dollar fee and a waiver/survey I'd be up for that depending on how they control the pass checking to see who can get in. It would keep loads and loads of gapers, old people, and dumb people out.

Well, one of the family mountains in the rockies does this. The park sucks though. All flat boxes, and the "bigger" ones are just flat boxes with bigger drops.

My resort does not but I think it would be beneficial. Our park is kinda split into 3 lanes; Large, intermediate, and small. I think they should set up a park pass for the Large lane only. The only thing that gets to me is when families ski down the big line. I dont believe you should have to pay for it. Just watch a video about park etiquette. I don't understand when people complain about gapers in the baby and intermediate park. They're there for that reason.

I'm assuming you're taking about Nakiska. Have you been there this year? It's mad fun. Great flow, and yes there are some flat boxes, but there are also some massive rail setups and a cool log jam. Their park is always really well maintained too.

My home mountain just did away with their park passes. They were $5 and had to watch the park safety video. The reason they did away with it is because visits into the newly opened park were extremely low, as well as visits to the existing park. Management must have figured people did not want to deal with getting the pass, so they would just avoid the park. Personally I think it will just flood the park with people that shouldnt be in it and cause a lot of accidents. I like the idea of a park pass. It limits liability, and keeps the parks safer and more enjoyable for the people that avidly use them.

I really wish COP did this to their main park (not progression).

It would prevent kids and families from standing on the jumps, their landings, and anywhere in between. It would prevent people from taking their 3 year olds down the middle of the park on leashes. It would pretty much prevent anyone what doesn't know how to ski and assess their surroundings from being in a park.

it's just a step towards private use only parks, one day you'll have to be a paying member of the freestyle team or some other bs to get in.

Park city: No, i wish they did

Brighton: Yes, but just for one section of their park (jumps) short online activity with some questions. $5, definitely worth it.


i think all parks should have park passes, protects the ski area from idiots and keeps gapers out of the park

a pass for the Larger park and keeping the mini/smaller park open to the public seems to be the general consesus, and i agree.

But the smaller Mountains with just 1 park that have average size hits? I think that's where it becomes a little questionable and a tougher call.

Thinking about it though, I live in southern NH and can't really think of a Mtn that Doesn't have a mini progression park. I know they are out there... McIntyre and Granite Gorge maybe?

Why do you think it would cause people who shoulnt be in the park to go into the park and cause accidents?

For those with park passes if somebody sees you doing something stupid/dangerous (cutting into landings, etc) do they take your park pass?

Sounds like such a good idea.  But what would you do if you just wanted to go to a resort for one day it would kind of suck to have to waste time taking a survey to ski for one day.

tremblant yes in the main park, 20$ yes they should have a park pass but no it shouldnt be 20 because im not sure what my money is going towards? they havent got a new feature in i dont know how long

and on the other note my home mountain MSLM does not, still see a lot of gapers in the park but no big deal its not needed

mountain creek does. its free of charge and you just have to fill out a test. currently, it does nothing since anyone and their mother can get one and you have to in order to ride at south. back in the day when you had to pay and the park wasnt an entire mountain is was very very effective in keeping people out. camelback has the right idea though. you buy the pass to get on that lift. best system IMO

MSLM is a bit of an anomaly though because it can only be accessed from the Outback lift and there is only big lonely around there. The junkyard is always full of Gapers though.

Few places that I ride have it and it is definitely beneficial.

CBK does this and i loved it, the only way to ride the park lift was if you had a park pass. which ment almost no lift line all the time.

skiing at keystone mostly now i really wish they would do this as the a51 lifts gets super crowded on peak days and people with their families should just ski to peru instead.

i heard one mom complaining about smelling pot on the lift, the lifty was like el oh el.

I fucking hate having to pay for the park pass.

I'm someone who doesn't buy a season pass but just gets group rates and skis a bunch of different mountains depending on conditions. As a result, i'm never down to drop cash for the park pass for a day or two.

$5, I get it. Fine. But places like Avila and Bromont are now $20 - that's just insane.

Means I never ski park anymore really

Bogus Basin does and its free. But they never actually enforce it so its just a waste of time. If the enforced it then I'd be all for it

Yea, there like 5$ at my hill, but most of the time they dont even check for them. In fact, i didn't even have to watch the safety video, they were too lazy to put it in for me. Saved me 10 minutes right there.

not for the regular park but there is a pass required for the black park up at whistler its like 25 bucks and u have to sign a waiver

Camelback has one, its pretty legit cause it only cost $5 for the entire season and it takes all of the gapers out of the park. Roundtop could benefit from this too but rmr needs a lift that services strictly the terrain park to truly remove gapers from the park

if big sky had one swifty rides wouldnt be as funny. i love watching the ways gapers try to get up the hill into swifty park

for real though id love a park pass here. get all the side jumpers out and the people off the landings of the ambush jumps

You assumed correct. Yeah, I went but everything seemed really shitty. The down rail was really fun. Maybe it seemed bad because the day before I had taken a trip to sunshine, which had some great snow opposed to the constant ice at Nakiska. Maybe I was just in a bad mood that day, I'll have to give it another chance.
