I guess we're the only F1 fans here! haha excuse me for not finding this thread earlier!

I was pretty happy when Rosberg won last weekend, although I would have rather had Vettel come in 2nd to prevent both Mclaren's from getting on the podium, and if Raikkonen could have held in for 3rd that would have made for the best podium, unless Kobayashi or Perez could have stayed up there farther, but it was really good to see all the different manufacturers in the top 10 including Bruno Senna who seems to be very underrated. That magical charge from Kobayashi from 16th place or so within the last couple laps was pretty epic too

Very open season thus far, pretty exciting. Good for Rosberg to get his first GP win, but I would have liked to see Schumi stay in the race and contend. Also too bad Raikkonen faded. As for the championship it is still wide open. McLaren at the top now, but I'm just waiting Red Bull to wake up from their nap, and Ferrari has showed strength as well. Only have to wait a week for the next race, I'm psyched!

He said in an interview that he wouldn't leave Sauber until at least the end of the year, so I guess it depends on how desperate Ferrari is to get a new driver

massa is under contract, and im willing to bet they have given up on the year already. They have a tendency to throw in the towel very early if a car isnt up to snuff. They will wait for perez.

you mean Alonso..? The F2012 is a terrible car, and Alonso shall remain as one of the best drivers in F1 history, he had crazy elements help him in the second round, and in Australia he simply hustled the car to the finish. In China we saw a more realistic, barely top 10 ferrari, that is what you should see till their new "mid season" car the "ferrauber" (basically copying Saubers rear half of the car.

I raced karts on an 1/8 mile clay oval for 5 years, and the second groove up on the track was always terrible because all the karts would just push all the loose dirt up a groove and then it was impossible to pass anyone on the outside

This season is already incredibly exciting and is showing to be very unpredictable. It's a shame that Schumi had to retire, because it was looking like a Mercedes 1-2 for a bit, and they're probably my favorite team on the grid right now. Is anybody here planning on going to Austin, provided the track is finished by then?

Also, is anyone else excited to see what Maldonado can do at Monaco this year? He did fairly well last year and this year so far they have been doing very well.

Monaco is pretty awesome for racing i think, last year was great, and if they hadnt let the teams swap tires during that red flag it probably would have been one of or the most exciting race of the year. tight street circuits may not get as much passing, but the passing that does happen is awesome. its quality not quantity. the wide european circuits are nice for how much action they allow, but it gets a little old sometimes, id rather see the more limited, but much more intense racing on tighter circuits.

go watch the race again, no one drives, especially kimi suddenly drives way off the track and loses a bunch of positions like that, notice how he goes a bit high in the left hander after the tight right hairpin, those are the marbles and there is NO grip out there...

I figured about halfway through the season I'd resurrect this thread, thoughts, I think Hockenheim should be another interesting race, maybe a Mercedes type track since all the corners are slow (don't need downforce) and the straights are long.

I think that this season has been going really well so far. My man Kamui Kobayashi is putting on some good races! Hockenheim and Barcelona to be exact. Lets keep this thread alive. F1 is the bees knees!

This season has been great so far, some really exciting races. Ferrari has stepped it up big time, even though Massa still can perform. Kimi has been a let down, he or Grosjean should have won a race by now, the car has the performance.

Kimi is gonna win a race before long, I wish Schumacher could get a little more competitive and win one this season. I'm pysched it's a lot more wide open this year and Red Bull/ Ferrari / McLaren aren't getting all the podiums.

In a sense you are correct. But, when you look at who is scoring points more consistently, Kobayashi is ahead there I am fairly certain.

Kobyashi in my opinion is only good at getting people taken out of the race, I mean that's harsh but it seems every race he causes at lease one crash, Mercedes McLaren FTW I like Perez and Hamilton as far as drivers go though

The irony in this is that Hamilton always seems to hit people when he attempts his overtakes. Take all last year for instance. Kobayashi easily has more calculated and clean passes the loosamilton.

True, Hamilton loses his temper when passed but he's only wrecked like twice this year to think. I haven't watched the past 2 races yet and kobyashi has crashed someone or himself in every race, one race I forget which one he took out 2 guys at different times then he took himself out

Hamilton doesn't just lose his temper when he's getting passed. I'm talking about when he's passing people. He seems to just go a bit too deep and slide into the person he's passing just about every time. There's a reason why he received so many penalties from stewards last season. Don't get me wrong a brilliant driver. He is one of the few people in the world that can do the perfect slip angle driving style. When he gets it right, he puts out a unbeatable time. But, when he doesn't, things just don't seem to be quite there for him. I wish I could see more things like his Quali lap at Melbourne this season. That was a pure driving lesson for any up and coming formula drivers on how to drive a formula car the perfect way. I have been trying to mimic it every time I go on the circuit. But, cannot seem to do it. It takes a skill beyond what I have I suppose.

As for Kobayashi. What are you talking about? Lets recap his performances here...

Australia - No problems. 6th Place

Malaysia - Car retirement. DNF

China - No problems. 10th Place

Bahrain - Sauber was just off pace at this track but no problems with other drivers. 13th place

Spain - Epic race. Bolted through the field at the end of the race. Tons of clean passes. 5th Place

Monaco - Got sandwiched on the start and retired due to crash damage. DNF

Canada - No problems. 9th Place

Europe - Was running well but then a racing incident with Senna occurred. More blame on Senna. DNF

Britain - Was running strong until he messed up his pit stop and hit his crew members. 11th place

Germany - Brilliant and Clean race by both Kamui and Sergio. 4th Position

You want to tell me where he takes people out??? I have watched every race. And I have been able to watch every move that Kamui makes as there is a "Kamui Cam" in the bottom corner of every F1 broadcast here in Japan TV coverage.

I'm a semi-pro driver in real life. So, remembering Formula 1 races is not so difficult.

At first you were attacking him saying that he was crashing into people and now you are in a sense taking it back by saying "but how many crashes has he been in this year." This to me clearly states that you are changing your argument now. As for this I would probably say maybe 3 crashes. 3 of which were not his fault. As for penalties, he received a penalty at Europe for the Senna incident. Only one penalty this year on something that should have been deemed as a racing incident. Senna definitely cut down and didn't realize how close/how much more speed Kobayashi was carrying. Poor awareness by both drivers and overall just a racing incident.

I wasn't trying to attack him I mean I do some karting and a little bit of rally racing and I know how difficult it must be to drive an f1 car. But in the races I've watched im pretty sure I've seen him make some aggressive passes that have blocked out other drivers or seen some little love taps from him

So far this season I've seen no love taps. In 2010 at Suzuka he had one with a STR. The STR then later returned the favor. This season though, Kamui has been a lot more subdued than in seasons past. I actually liked the more flamboyant Kamui style.

Gotta say I'm newly hooked on F1! The only other racing I really enjoy watching on TV is Supercross. Nascar and Indy are kinda boring.

Saw Kimi Raikkonen on Top Gear and thought he was cool as shit, nothing like the misguided impression I had of F1 drivers. Somehow that got me interested, and hooked.

The pure speed is just amazing, and I love how every race is different.
