Today I came back home from college and was pumped to hit my home park and see what they've done. When I got there, it seemed like the park crew try so hard on being "creative" with the set-up, that it made it impossible to try new tricks on the rails/boxes. Instead of having a flat rails or a simple down rails, the park was littered with improvised set-ups that made spinning in and out very difficult. Does anyone else have this problem with their home park?
My main park is keystone and the park crew is awesome.they have every thing from simple stuff in I-70 to Main Street which is huge stuff and crazy rails... the guys at keystone and breck my home mountains are fucking awesome
You should never complain when your park crew gets creative. Sure it may be hard to dial in your X-on, X-off on a crazy creative jib. However trust me, everybody's already seen somebody else doing that X-on, X-off a million times, and it's way more badass when you figure out something new and different to do on your park's creative jibs. A simple trick on an unusual park feature is just as cool, and usually cooler, than a difficult trick on a simple setup. And once you can slide that up-flat-down-C-down-flat to butter box with ease, you'll be surprised how easy it is to slay a down rail. Working on your technique on the harder setups will improve your performance on simpler jibs.
That said, every park should be be built keeping the progression of the riders in mind, and should include easy features as well as difficult ones. In my opinion no park is complete without a simple flat rail, down rail, flat box, and down box. Install those four basic elements, and THEN get creative.
^ i agree, Also dont bitch, without the park crew there would be no park. 100% of people who work on park crew are just as stoked or more stoked on riding a park than you are. Every person on the park crew does it because they love park. And they all slave day and night just so the park is as sick and as creative as it is. And please when it dumps 3 ft over night, dont come crying to us that your favourite flat box is snowed in... we dont give a fuck, we are gonna go shred some pow.
Woah i wish i had a park crew like that. I used to love the park 2 years ago. Features where up day one till closing weekend, big jumps, allowed to hike after they closed, and more technical rails. Now we have a new manager who really doesnt care. I can think of 2 maybe 3 people who actually enjoy park riding on the crew. Although it doesnt matter because they rarely decide anything. The park has zero flow, Ride on features, and the oldest lift on the mountain that takes about 8 minutes for a 1 minute run down. They dont change the setup for months at a time and leave a bunch of features laying in the woods the whole season.
Me and my buddy are talking about joining next year to try and change stuff but from what ive heard i dont want to sit around all week in a small shack when i could be building a feature or riding the park.
talk to somebody in upper management about the laziness of park crew and them not seeming to care about anything. Where I work at least one of us is out riding the whole time, unless its pouring down rain. The only way to know if something needs work is to ride it. Sure, most of our day is spent riding, but when something needs fixed we will fix it. (with the exception of bombholes, because unless you let them sit overnight they are going to form again in 2 hits.)
Do it dude. When you have a legit park crew its awesome. You get mad perks like lots of riding, lots of laps. You need to hit things to make sure they are right. It can be hard work at times but its worth it when you have a dope park that kids are stoked on.
Let me just say that if there is no skiers on a PC then you'll find that boxes get set up in some pretty weird fucked up configurations with weird as lips. sometimes its cool but sometimes it can be harder for skiers. 1 skier on the crew and things change pretty quick.
we got about 7 skiers and 7 boarders, so everything is pretty even, and the manager is a skier. Usually try to have a good skier line and a boarder line.
