Painting a Jacket

Hey Newschoolers,

I have an old ski jacket that i wanted to paint a design onto, like a pocket a certain colour or a sleeve What is the best way to do this? Open to suggestions.

I know but is it possible to just dye, one section of the jacket not all of it.

yeah i was thinking that might happen. but its an extra pair of sleeves that ive never used, so its a risk im willing to take

If we're talking about a piece of outerwear, then it probably has some sort of water resistant coating or something that might hinder the dying process. If it's just plain fabric then sure why not.

Createx Paint!!! It's an airbrushing paint that they sell alot of local hobby shops. They come in all sorts of colors. Made spacificly for fabric, Tee's, Shoes, Leather ect.. They might sell wicked paint too. Made by the same company as Createx, but a lil better. The Createx you have to heat set, with a hair dryer or iron, but the wicked you don't. But iv done a few things with out heat setting and they where fine. The little bit that's on

Gets on my fingers and I wipe on my pants never seems to wash out, I never heat press that. If you have any more prob's PM me. You dont have to use an airbrush, you could just apply it with a pain brush from the hobby store, and get a small one too, so you can clean up the edges.

Just build the paint up in small coats... Don't try to cover the hole thing in one coat, if some spots don't take leve it be, and you'll cover that spot on the next coat. You'll get better coverage, better color and it will hold up better! Its made to be sprayed out thinn, so you don't wanna glop it on with a brush. If the have the wicked paint too, wicked makes a reducer ( for airbrushing fine work) you might wanna get a lil bottle of that too... The paints super chep, but it's a good paint. If you want,, buy an Airbrush and you could apply even better with that.

Oo and the sell 2 diff types of paint.. Opaque or Trasparent.. If it's a black or dark color, you might be better getting an Opaque White then using a Transparent color like red ( or whatever color you want to paint ).. If it's a lighter color you could just get a opaque red ( or whatever color you like). Opaque colors are solid and transparent colors are like candy colors, they just sit on top of a color changing the shades of color with ever coat you put on. But if you put down a Opaque white and a transparent red, it will just be a red! You can get a few colors and mix to what color you want.. Always start lighter side of a color,, you'll waste alot of paint trying to lighten a darker color, so start on the lighter side. They sell plastic shot cups at the 1$ store. That's what I mix my paint in.
