we can tell how good/familiar you are at skiing almost immediately, no need to ego boost yourself and say you rode for 100 years straight when you were a kid

eh ill play along,
once you work on the snow at a resort you learn that ski patrol is your greatest allie and you will get along with them well. especially if you are working terrain park.

i work at a 4 star restaurant.

that soda that you just paid 2.49 for, i can have as many as i want for free.

that cappuccino that you just bought for 2.99, i also get as many as i want for free

that bistro burger that you paid 11.95, well i get that for 5.00, and depending on the chef, i get it for free.

also, if you have french fries on you plate, and the plate is still in the window waiting for the rest to come out; we will eat your fries.

we talk so much shit about everyone

we dont actually spit in food. we dont drop food on the floor. and we wont nuke cold food.

your waiter hates you. all he wants is for you to eat as fast as you can and order as booze as you can, and get the fouch out of there for another person.

if you send back, untouched food, we do eat it.

that single scoop of blood orange sorbet that you paid 4.59, is free for me.

there is nothing that we hate more than when a guest wants to change tables, or when a large party arrives is different groups, because it causes the entire restaurant to halt for a second while host re-ajusts your location on the computer, you server goes to the kitchen to tell the chef to change the ticket from table 19 to table 35.

buss boys make more than the hosts. FACT.

the managers only came to your table to see how you were doing because you bought 3 bottles of wine, not because you seen like interesting people.

waiters make between $2.50-3.00 an hour, bussers between $4-5 an hour so we heavily really on tips.

WE REMEMBER BAD GUESTS!

Your skis are not worth 800$. The shop buys it for about 300$. They boost prices until there are 3 left to make sure to get every penny. That deal they make you put the profit margin back 50$

Lifties are high as fuck. Notice the sunglasses for no reason?

Ski instructors in the east are payed shit. Tips are rare!

The guy selling you these skis just got hired yesterday.

Cotton and sweat clothing is the worst material to ride with.

not sure if this is relevant anymore....

My mom used to work at a ski shop back in the 80s and 90s and she said that there was always that really nice ski that everyone wanted. Probably by like rossignol back then. The company would give real ski shops the nice model and the shop would sell it at msrp. But the ski company like rossignol would also sell it to places like dicks sporting goods. They would sell the same "model" that looked exactly the same. But if you were smart and knew something about the ski business you would see a small number on the ski or a letter. This meant that it was a ski of much worse quality but looked exactly the same. Dicks would sell it for a little cheaper. Thats why mom makes me always buy skis at shops and not online. All though the online stores are of great quality and definitely trustworthy, she still wants me to go into store to get it. So If I were you, dont buy your shit from dicks sporting goods or like sports authority

Can any ski company on this cite have any idea what I'm talking about, My mom knows alot about the business and she said that this is what they used to do. It may no longer happen anymore because it would be way to easy for people to pick up on through the internet or the news.

i'm a ski instructor as well

when i'm teaching little kids, i mostly just work on my switch skiing. lol

and im also on the park crew. we don't want old people/young kids to know that anyone with a helmet can enter the park.

1) food service workers are paid way below minimum wage because tips are assumed to be part of their salary. this is legal and happens in every state.

2) when you are talking about "stars" relating to a restaurant it is assumed to be Michelin stars...and your place of buisness has none, let alone 4.

3) sell some drugs to one of the cooks of the nicest place in town, and you will always get the best service, and complimentary apps/deserts whenever you go there. makes you look like a baller to your date.

4) mexicans are the heart and soul of the restaurant industry. they are the cooks in almost every single restaurant regardless of what ethnicity, or quality the food is.

5) the food industry is a thankless, low paying industry, so they dont need customers to make their day even worse. dont be afraid to ask for things, but never, ever be rude.

6) the rachael rays, a guy ferarri's of the world have minimal knowledge of the culinary arts. they should not be revered as chefs. want to see a revered chef? youtube thomas keller, or Jacques pepin.

and working in the food industry and skiing 100+ days per year go hand in hand. all the waiters, busboys, cooks, hosts etc in ski towns are all shredders. its part of the life for most.

Yes, yes, of course. I just like to "internationalize" around here.

There's a steady culture of ski bums/half-tourists bussing tables in ski towns all around Europe, it's just not very prevalent in Finland.

Every other rating system for restaurants besides that is stupid anyway.

If it's not on the Michelin list it isn't noteworthy for me.

BTW: buzz boys get payed quite well here in the Netherlands, keeps them from being annoying I guess.

worked as a hostess at a Thai restaurant

i received

free soda refills/pineapple juice

depending on the bartender i could also get alcoholic drinks (though i did not)

free sushi

free Thai food

if you were unusually picky about your food, and asked for 1 star (mildly) spicy, i would put down 3 stars

I love the sense of entitlement that goes with restaurant work.

Yea, it's hard and the pay is low, but do you think everyone else's job is the most pleasant, enjoyable experience ever?

The vibe i get from some of you is "ohmygod! I was waiting a table, and they wanted like...an extra drink! What inconsiderate assholes! So I treated them like shit all night!"


The nature of my job involves people usually being mad, drunk, and ready to fight when they see me. And they usually only get more upset upon my arrival, and that's when I'm doing everything perfectly, by the book. I'm not getting rich doing it...does that mean I get to treat people like shit too?

what do you mean handle situations? Like hearing someone ask for a 1, and then immediately writing down a 3? If thats your idea of a stressful work situation you're gonna have a hard time in life.

Sounds more like you're inept at your job, and have poor people skills more than anything. But that's based just on this instance. I don't mean to insult your character or anything on a grand scale like that...just saying this example doesn't help prove otherwise.
