Mine wasn't so bad on flesh, but when he went right over the shoulder blade I winced real bad. and with all of the colors I have in mine he had to go over the same spots a few times, he had to do the white last and that doesn't show up very well so he really had to dig in when it was already raw.
No pain no gain tho, it's worth the discomfort.

I have 3 basic ,clean, colorless irish symbols in places non visible in a buisness setting, took a 9 year break between getting number 2 and 3 but now Im definitely done. griffin from flag, lock from coat arms, mark of the first born son with my brothers' initials. none hurt that bad besides on the side of my chest by my armpit

i am in looooooove with your tattoo. im getting two dancing bears on the back of my neck within the next month or so. only have money for one right now and one off center on the back of my neck would just look dumb. i love the grateful dead tribe.

I really don't like tattoos, and I don't have a real reason why. I find nothing wrong with getting one, however I think it's a poor decision to get one if you plan on getting a job in the world of academia later in life. But that being said the older I get the more turned off I get by girls with large tats.

Had this done when I was 18, 22 now and the color still looks bad ass. You get what you pay for, IMO worth it to spend a bit more and get a quality tattoo!

how are you supposed to decide on which artist or shop does better quality tattoos? i guess some guys do it better than others... did you choose based on price or what? i'd just go with the style i dig most.

A lot of shops have websites where you can view the portfolios of the artists that work for them. Some shops might have many artists who specialize in a particular style or may be well rounded. It's all about quality vs price. Remember it's a lifetime choice and commitment. Anything you put on your skin should be well thought out and be worth the cash. Don't bother asking around usually some people are very biased on where to go, and may not be a premium artist. I have seen many terrible tattoos from doing so. Me used to being included as one. And always remember to tip your artist!

Someone else already answered this perfectly, I got mine done at a shop I had seen numerous friends get their tattoos done at, the guys were true artists, only 2 owned and ran the shop and it took quite awhile to get an appointment, but it was worth the wait. They drew me a few sketches until it looked like exactly what I wanted it to, they were patient and you could just tell they gave a shit unlike most places who just want your money and don't care all that much about quality, just quantity. Do your research and you'll get good results :)

I'd post mine but every single tattoo I have looks like a pile of shit and needs to be covered up. I haven't paid a dime for a single one and it shows in the quality of shit I have.

Spend the money to have some one professional and competent do your tattoos, in the end its worth every penny you drop on them.

Been wanting a tattoo for a while now... just not sure what to get. I agree that they don't have to mean anything, but I do want my first one to at least have a story behind it. Preferably a Dark Tower related tattoo. But I just might have to copy that Pollard idea one day

Six years ago I got my first tattoo, a cross. I was 18, naive and Catholic. Since then I opened my heart and realized the truth about the Catholic faith... first tattoo I would not get again.

My 2nd tat was a Flag with an anchor. I was in the Navy. Tats used to be a sign of being a badass sailor. Now the majority of people get em. Not to mention how hacky it is to get a flag, I've since realized the lies and truth of our government. I did not complete my contract and got a honorable early out (So if you're in the military there are ways out after you realize the corruption and how you are not fighting for the greater good***) 2nd tat I regret.

My third tat is my last name written like the Godfather movie title.. With Miraglia (my name) on the puppet strings. Not actually sure what the puppet strings symbolize. I should probably google it?? I got it when I had money to burn in the navy. At least I still dig this one.


I would not get another tattoo unless I had a serious overflow of money. Even then, I would find it hard to spend that much on body art when there are people in this world who need it way more.

I'm really not trying to start anything (seriously man, I've got no problem with your decisions [you're the one who has to live with them]), but it sounds like you've never truly known yourself, especially in an artistic sense. It sounds like you've been influenced by your situation in every tattoo decision. "Body art," or tattoos, is art... just like buying paintings or prints.

I was influenced. And I admit that I no longer represent a cross or a flag. Should I pretend I still do? My point is that parents were correct, you may regret tattoos one day. I regret 2/3 of them. What is your point about me being influenced? I admitted I got the flag because it was the cool thing to do? I conformed. Sometimes it is death or birth that influences a tattoo. Sometimes people get the same koi fish for whatever reason. My tattoos do not demonstrate my artistic sense one bit. I did not draw them. Just a spur of the moment decision. No different then buying a new shirt when I got them.

No disagreement here. I've grown miles since I've got my first tattoo. The only difference is that I've grown within the same channel that I originally decided to prescribe to. I've known my tastes, who I am, and what I believe in for a long time. Maturity and a sense of true self have been with me for better or worse (a LOT of times for worse) for a long time now. I'm a very quiet person in the flesh and my friends often shit on me for being too "morbid" or "pessimistic" about life. Not that you have, but I've never lied to myself about who I am and what I feel; or what causes me enjoyment.

Dude, like I said I really wasn't trying to start anything. My only point was that if you're going to get ART (that's what tattoos are at the end of the day... art) permanently inked on your body, you better know what your artistic values are.

I think it's really fucking awesome and mature of you to understand yourself at this point to know where you went wrong with your tattoos. I wasn't so much trying to be a dick as I was trying to caution other people. You're a seriously strong person for realizing, and acknowledging (especially in a public [internet] format) that you've got some mistakes on your body. In all honesty I respect that.

I know you were just discussing, not arguing, I dig it. It is just I did not know six years ago that I would mature to make a different choice on Religion. I know what you're saying, "if you're going to get ART".... you mean you better like it. It is permanent. Well, six years ago I thought that was who I was. Was I supposed to keep riding the Roman Catholic wave? What do you mean by, "the same channel I originally decided to prescribe to"? I was young and brainwashed by religious teachings. That is who I thought I was. Was I always honest with myself then? HELL NO.. am I now? I try to be. Maybe the word "regret" doesn't describe my tattoos? More like I would just not get the same ones today. I am happy that you have known yourself for a long time. If that is sincere then that is awesome.
Why are you even bringing up lying to yourself? Again that is who I was then. This is who I am now.. I can't pretend to still support a cross, a flag, or the combo of those two on my arm.

I have "ski bum" on my upper right ass cheek. yea I know its cliche, but considering I sort of dropped everything to pursue a skiing lifestyle and my entire life is centered around it, I'd say its relevant. Plus it makes me chuckle.

Sorry man it was late and I worded that soo poorly haha. I just meant that I've changed a lot since my first tattoo, but I've never deviated from the same core person that I am, especially artistically. I've always been bluntly honest with myself about what I feel deep down, on those fundamental levels. And no, I think you're completely right for being honest with yourself about religion and what you feel. Self honesty and going with something that you feel down in your gut can be hard, especially when you've been fed the opposite for so long while so young. Props to you, sir.
