Any non-Americans Support Capital Punishment?

Looking at the debate in the thread about that girl getting life in prison it seems to me that no one on NS besides americans actually support capital punishment.

Please NS prove me wrong and find me some non american people who support capital punishment!

Well basically the argument is that it is inhumane to use capital punishment because it shows that the government is no better than the actual murderer is.

If the government uses the death penalty then it is doing everything that you just listed (minus 48 people). Plus it is totally contradictory to what the world should stand for.

Im against it, heres why.... it sucks way more to be in a shity jail the rest of your life and never see sunlight.

I would rather rapists have to eat cockmeat sandwiches in jail and get beaten up and live in fear for their whole life than just die softly. too bad the prison system is so soft now though!

It honestly doesnt matter who killed who first. That doesnt give the government the right to just end someones life no matter how despicable or disgusting their actions are.

The world should stand for peace, love and hapiness. Capital punishment just doesnt send that message.

thats the problem.. prison is, most of the time, a cush life. prison isnt what it used to be. plus, it costs tax payers a lot of money to pay for all that shit.

take their life. no more cost. no more bullshit.

If we just went back to hanging, or a firing squad, I would be much more for it. We spend way to much money killing the pond scum as is; or keeping them alive.

I do. Not 100% of the time but economically its a lot better in a lot of circumstances. I also think if it was more prevailant then maybe people would actually think twice before they commit murder.

new theory, we should be just as viligant to find the right person. when there we are sure without a doubt, the person should suffer what they made the person suffer but worse.

rapists get raped by a big wooden stick, no lube. kidnappers get torchered in a basement with no windows for months, pedofiles get killed slowly starting from their genitals.

it sounds fucked up but in a world like this, who would attempt such horrible crimes? crime rate would go down because people would actualy be scared of the concequences.

yea, its stupid.. once you're convicted it should just be dealt with, quickly and smoothly.. but there's all these loopholes and bullshit and they keep re appealing, and bunch of legal stuff.

this is the only reason i don't support it. an innocent man in the town near mine just got released from prison after spending 49 years behind bars. after those 49 years, police stumbled upon evidence that proved the man was innocent. if NY had capital punishment, the man would have been a goner

For the record.

Keep it simple, don't make it excessively cruel. It is essentially losing your right to be a member of society. When someone is bad enough that they are no longer willing to live in and abide by the social contract, they forfeit that right. In the old days you could just deport them (Prison colonies anyone?), that is no longer possible.

If you have to kill someone, kill them, but don't be cruel about it. Just do it. It is when you try and make it excessively slow and painful, that you start to fuck with your own head, and move past the boundary of sanity.

Once again, the costs of going through the necessary trials and the actual process of Capitol Punishment in the USA is actually more expensive than keeping someone for a life sentence. It's kinda ridiculous, but it is something to think about.

Crime rate would probably stay the same. You're forgetting about the people that would have to commit these legal killings - certainly all of them would be impacted mentally and some may go on to commit killings/other terrible crimes as well.

British, don't support, largely because the justice system isn't flawless, and the idea of legally killing an innocent man is too fucked up for me. Few other reasons as well but can't type well enough to go into them at the moment.

It's not the method that costs a lot it's the process. Which is tough to get around, because it's legitimate to make sure you've got it right before you off someone. Currently it costs more to kill a prisoner than imprison them for life in the USA. There are no obvious solutions there.

This argument has been refuted on countless occasions. There is absolutely no data to indicate that capital punishment reduces crime in any way. In fact, in many cases crime as been shown to increase in areas where capital punishment is practiced.

Also, wrongful conviction. Think about it.

I'm from the U.S of the A an I am a strong believer of Capitol punishment. Kill those who rape and kill, just my opinion. Killing someone can ruin peoples lives that loved that person, rapeig someone will ruin that persons life, usually a she will have to think about that, everyday of her life and will always be paranoid. I have a question for those who apose it, if someone raped your girlfriend or killed your girlfriend. Would you want that person to be alive anymore or have him sit in prison? Yeah sure he will think about it and sure he will have to stay there, but hey take the chance to let him get out again? My opinion, and I also think that it would do good on crime rates. People know that not many people get away with murder anymore because of the new science stuff. So before they kill tht person maby they will think twice.
