The only really cool one was with the nets. Rest is just a waste of fish. Although it does look like the population might be out of control.

yeah from what i have seen about this situation is that they are so overpopulated that they "forget" about the possibility to flee underwater and instead go for the only direction where no other fish is, and that is towards the surface

this is an invasive species that is destroying the native fish populations. Notice how many fish are jumping out of the water EVERYWHERE? that's not normal. you're supposed to kill these fish. there are videos of people that shoot these fish with bows, etc. there is even a competition to see who can catch (read kill) the most fish in a day. they are a nuisance and are ruining the rivers.

if this species makes it to the great lakes, we're fucked.

"The problem being addressed is that the Asian Carp have started to take over the rivers and subsidiaries of our nations waterways. The Carp are voracious feeders that feed mostly on plankton. The problem with this is that the young offspring of the fish native to the rivers also feed on mostly plankton. If the carp are eating most of the plankton then it leaves very little for the offspring of native fish to feed on and they basically die of starvation. This means the carp are threatening the entire ecosystem of the riverways.

The Asian Carp were introduced to the United States for basically one reason: they eat algae. The main source of the problem seems to be owners of fish hatcheries in Louisianna who brought the Carp into their hatcheries to control algae in the early 1970s. The Carp were also used by municipalities in sewage treatment plants, again to control algae.

While this may have worked for the algae control, the unforseen problem was the fish entering our waterways and ecosystem. Flooding in the early 1990s floated the fish out of the hatcheries and into the waterways. Today, the fish have made their way up the Mississippi to Chicago and are dangerously close to entering the Great Lakes through Lake Michigan."

The ones in the video that are a huge problem are silver and bighead carp. I think the ones in europe are common carp, but no one in the US eats those either.
