The bottom line is the prison and judicial systems of America are incredibly draining on federal funds. I personally believe the key to fixing the economy lies in adjustments to the legal system of America. Legalize nearly all drugs, make all violent crimes punishable by death, and drastically simplify the judicial process. Legalization of drugs slashes the number of prisoners by a massive number as well as providing a tremendous boost to the economy in the forms of taxes and job creation. Making violent crimes punishable by death will not only serve as a huge deterrent to violence but also, again, cut prison costs. Lastly simplifying the judicial process and eliminating the logistics associated with it substantially cuts costs and preserves tax dollars. Essentially we need to stop putting tax payer's money in unnecessary places, and take advantage of the diminished operating cost for the judicial system by cutting taxes allowing for greater spending power for the average citizen promoting business in what is supposed to be a capitalistic society.

Why should we kill those who kill in order to show that killing is wrong? You can argue all you want that it is for the safety of the community, but in reality, prison achieves the same goal. Capital punishment is barbaric and unreasonable. As for this case, the girl certainly deserves an extremely long sentence. However just throwing her in a cell for the rest of her life isn't the greatest idea. She's clearly gone off the deep end and needs psychological help. Now that I think about it though, chances are she's just one of those people who can't be helped. I obviously don't have sympathy for her, but I do pity her. Some people just get dealt a shitty hand in life.

I might agree with you on lessening the war on drugs charges to free up space and drop spending for mostly petty imprisonment.

But when you start thinking about CRIME on a capitalistic level, that's where you take the wrong fucking turn.

First, it's violent crimes, murder, homicides, that get the bullet. Then, it's the slightly less violent crimes, drunk drivers running over children, psychotic jackhammering fools, fuck it, blow 'em out instead of spending money on their jail time. Et cetera. It's all downhill from there.

The problem about judicial systems, or any major systems in place at the moment isn't about cutting costs, it's about demanding compensation and putting a price on things in the first place, but that's a whole 'nother discussion...

People have the ability to make their own decisions. Why should the government not take advantage of the billion dollar industries that exist on the black market despite costly regulation? From a fiscal stand point there are almost no flaws to legalizing most things. People are at the mercy of their own conscious and will most likely do something regardless of its legality. By the way thanks for reminding me that prostitution should also be legalized.

Well in my own opinion, most people are fucking idiots. Without rules and regulations this society of ours would probably get out of control pretty quickly. Somehow I want to belive in the words of Plato: if you know what is good, you will also do good.

Just because people are able to make a living on selling and producing meth doesnt mean its a good idea, the poor state of the economy cant be fixed through solutions like that, it will most likely create more problems instead (increased substance abuse the obvious problem).
I wouldnt want my doctor to be doing crack cocaine when hes not working, or my daughter to choose to fuck pathetic men for a living. Its illegal for a reason.

Not going to even touch on the drugs issue, because you seem to be under the impression that junkies in jail are the only ones we pay for.

As far as Capital Punishment goes.
It is NOT cheaper
It DOES NOT unclogg the judicial system, because it only leads to more appeals,
it IS already a possible punishment for violent crime in 37 or 38 states, and IS NOT a deterrent
and it accomplishes nothing whatsoever to either the rehabilitation of the prisoner, nor the safety of everybody outside.

watch it, especially that other guy proposing death penalties for other crimes than murder. i know its more about the debate why religion is not needed for morals. but at around 6:00 he shows how a tiered punishment system is intrinsically a good thing.

There is no comparison between murder and justified, court sanctioned execution. It's ignorant to pretend people like this can be "fixed" or that they even deserve a second chance... Punishment and Prison are not made to rehabilitate they are made to punish people and it's backward to pretend otherwise. There just are inherently bad people in this world, and we are better off with many of them dead. If you can't stomach it, I feel sorry for you. Hopfully this girls fellow prisoners will take it alone theirselves to clean house.

I know where your from you can kill 69 people and end up treated like a sick person and probably released before you die. But some countries don't ever allow a second chance and I for one am glad we maintain that option in America. The way the judicial system stands capital punishment is not cost effective or reasonable, but that's also not my argument. Provided adjustments are made to the logistics and processing of the court system it could be a very efficient means of dealing with crime. Also, it is not a deterrent because it is only applicable to the most violent crimes such as murder and is rarely applied anyway, if capital punishment for less violent crimes like assault became commonplace it would certainly be a deterrent.

Can you see yourself getting drunk as fuck one night, just barely able to control yourself, with some guy macking on your girlfriend/wife/sister/whoever and you lose control, as we humans seem to do quite so often due to various reasons, and beat the shit out of that guy.

In court, you would plea to the judge "I'm so sorry your honor! It was a mistake, I didn't mean to hurt him, he was macking on MY GIRL!" To no avail.

You would be endorsed with a swift capital punishment in your fucking face, for the cost of no less than a dollar, with your raggedy-ass corpse being pulled away into the incinerator room quicker than they can load the other guy in for his final judgement.

pretty sure one instance of lethal injection is gonna be less than 65+ years of psychiatric and physical care, but I couldn't make that claim for certain until I see a spreadsheet comparing the costs from the federal government, which I'm not planning to do and you won't either. to the first point its really a consideration of if everyone deserves a second chance, and I believe the scope of the girl's crime forfeit her right for a second chance from society. 15 is young, but not too young to know that killing another person isn't wrong.

While I support mass legalization I don't think it should come without the necessary regulations and standards that would have to be associated with it in order for it to be successful. Drug testing for nearly all drugs would have to be standardized in any position requiring your ability to coherently assist others, all substances would obviously have to meet particular standards set by the FDA, and age limits would be associated with most drugs. However, the government is in position to tell people how to live their life as long as it does not impede on another's pursuit of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (yeah i said it). You don't know how someone else wants to live their life, there's a dude in a city near me on a permanent acid trip and he's probably the happiest person in a 50 mile radius while other law abiding citizens are depressed. Some people want to get fucked up and have wild and short life while others want a long, steady, happy life, not your right to tell others which is right. In fact, the government criminalizing drugs can be seen as hindering one's right to the pursuit of happiness, but that's kinda ridiculous. Also, your daughter is allowed to fuck pathetic men for a living already, it just has to be in front of a camera.

It is certainly a crazy concept and would most likely lead to a somber society but from an economic perspective it works. In order for these ideas to be successful in a happy society they would clearly need to be more moderate as there are many holes in the ideology. I can totally see your perspective, it's just a matter of achieving a balance between cutting costs and maintaining a happy society.

You're right, never considered that idea. Like I said in my last post, it's about finding a balance. My main man Joseph Stalin once said, "Death is the solution to all problems, no man... no problem," (shit sounds awesome when read with a russian accent). Widespread and frequent use of the death penalty is a double-edged sword, like you said once one decides to commit a minor crime there's no incentive to avoid higher crime, but at the same you are far less likely to commit a minor crime. It's most certainly an interesting discussion to be had.

now since we cant do that the problem is, I have seen some numbers and a death penalty trial in the end costs more than it will cost to keep her alive her life in prison. I could be wrong but im about 99% sure I have read this in more than one place. to lazy to go search the net for it right now though.
