"Rednecks"

I'm not sure if this is just a local thing, but kids in my town seem to have taken it upon themselves to become extremely ignorant, in the way of putting Confederate flags on their trucks without knowing the history of racism behind it.

Why just tonight, I was in an argument with one of these "rednecks" who said that high taxes and oppression from the North during the 1850-60's were the reason the South split off, when in all reality slavery was the main cause and this kid is just a dumbass.

Just wondering if this is happening in any other states than my own, because Maine is really filled with dumbasses such as these. . . .

my friends cousin from main now lives with him and he is a ghetto piece of shit from maine. hes not much of a red neck tho. he is very sketchy tho.

One of the biggest reasons for the civil war was over states rights in general verses federal rights/ powers. Slavery was an indirect aspect of that debate, albeit the biggest one. But taxes and over arching federal government was the huge also. Most people who fly that flag these days do it to symbolize, states rights, southern pride. I'm sure there are racists who fly it too but it's ignorant to make the majority who fly it out to be racists its not as simple as just slavery. I for one would never fly it. I'm a proud Yankee and am glad the south lost!

Rednecks in my shool wear John Deere hats and farm boots and brag about how they do manual labor and work on "farms"..."country loving down home lovin guns beer hunting trucks corn" kids. Then their parents pick them up from school in their 2012 Lincoln navigators and new tahoe's

This. Growing up on a farm and going to highschool in the city currently, I see a bunch of these "rednecks" or self proclaimed "hicks". It's these kids with lifted trucks, confederate flags I the back window, ad they've never worked a day in their life. Daddy went an bought them the $12,000 truck, and the kids tell their stories of being a HIV and going mudding in some farmers field. I got no respect for those kids.

I'm in the PNW and these assholes spread like wild fire and i can't stand them. i have a kid in my creative writing class that has "Rowdy Redneck" tattooed on the inside of his biceps. I can't fucking stand rednecks.

The civil war was fought over states rights. Yes one of the issues was slavery. Not because one side thought it was fine and the other one hated racism, but bc the south realized their economy would be utterly fucked if all of their free labor just walked away. Honestly take an American History class if your in college. and if you are still in high school, that explains why you still think the war was fought to free the slaves.

when did being redneck spread to Maine and fucking Canada? I mean cmon, Canada?!?!?! that's not even close to the south...

I live in North Carolina, born and raised here so I know all about this. It's a little different though here because most of the people that dress and act that way, really are that way...some fake it of course but the majority that's just the way it is. Nobody really wears cowboy hats though, just the boots and carhart jackets.

it's odd though because in the south people dress redneck and then it's also popular to dress preppy with polo and vinyard vines and wear khakis all the time, which is pretty much my style. kind of polar opposites. but hey I love the south because we have sweet tea that is just fucking amazing, don't know what the rest of you people do without it

I know alot of guys that are the definition of a hard working, farmer/rancher. And they act and look nothing like these kids in wranglers and cowboy hats with lifted trucks that claim to be something they arnt. But they do it cause the white girls love that type of guy. Girls dont want a guy that lives in the middle of no where who wears shit covered holey jeans and drives a dirty truck that is beat the fuck up because it gets used hows its intended to be. Some girls want fancy guys

I had a girl tell me the other day that she thinks its sexy when I chew. and that she wants to do the splits ontop of me in the bed of my truck...

Hahaha, god i love living in Maine for this reason. I could tell you were from Windham, ME just by the OP. Go up to northern Maine and you will meet some real rednecks.
For instance there's a family that lives in a double wide, off a back road, and at anytime of the day you will see two guys that weigh around 300 sitting in lawn chairs around a fire in a metal barrel just crushing beers. Best part is they have a sign right infront of it saying "welcome to perfect", these guys are the absolute shit and some really nice people.

Needless to say, the fucks who live around Windham and try to be redneck suck, but real rednecks are some of my favorite people ever.

One of my good friends from high school was/is just like this. He lives down the street from me in a normal middle class neighborhood and was a typical snow bum for a few years but then he went to a technical school and is now a full blown "redneck". Its so weird how this happens to people, a handful kids from my high school class went this route. We went to a private school for baby jesus sake.

this is Minnesota in a nutshell. these guys feel it's compulsory to plow their own parking spot before parking their truck in the fucking parking lot. PLUS they drive tractors to school in the spring to be rebellious.
