to op, the south seceded for many reasons, a main one of them being slavery but tensions were building for other reasons such as taxes, and the high tariff that was passed under jackson, a state once had the ability to nullify a tariff but jackson was not fond of the nullifications and didnt allow south carolina to nullify the tariff. this was the first major clash between a southern state and the national government. South Carolina had threatened to secede due to this.

back to the rednecks, ive worked on a farm, i drove a diesel truck, ive been known to wear boots from time to time when i wasnt working, ive dipped, I hunt. but i wouldnt call myself a hick, just enjoy being outdoors and had an opportunity to make some money by working with in an environment where the redneck thrives.
but i hate people who think they are so country and by a truck and put some huge ass chrome wheels and shitty ass tires and then put a redneck sticker on the window. that truck would get stuck in a rut so fast and their shitty ass city tires would be so filled with mud they wouldnt be able to get out. there is zero towing capacity since they bought a 6 cylinder and put flowmasters on it so everyone thinks they have a super huge engine.
you see this very often around denver, so many rich people who think they are hicks.
