I'm usually not one to armchair it, but that was fucking stupid of him. "here lets rocket up onto this huge overhanging cornice on my 500 pound sled!" brilliant idea.
not sure what you mean by that "really?" I guess I'll elaborate.
I don't have any hard stats, but the majority of deaths in the backcountry are people on snowmobiles (at least in British Columbia), and more often than not, they died due to stupidity.
The problem comes when the media gets the information and spreads their misinformation, with both the media and general public clumping all "backcountry users" into one group. It's really annoying when "people" try to tell me that what I am doing is unsafe and something should be done about it, because a group of sledders did something stupid and died.
who the fuck stops a SNOWMOBILE on a motherfucking CORNICE???
you don't need to know anything about avalanches to know that is an incredibly dumb thing to do. you don't even need that much common sense. jesus that guy is lucky
that was very dumb. why drive onto cornice? even if he didnt know it was a cornice (which is unlikely, it looked like he knew the area and said "this is my view"), why the fuck was he out without a buddy?
