HOMEWORK HELP: Groundwater Hydrogeology (Longshot)

I have to make a vertical profile of moisture content, pressure head, and hydraulic head, versus depth fpr a 200cm depth under the following conditions:

a) moisture content is 20% through the profile
b) pressure head is -50 cm through the profile
c) hydraulic head is 150cm through the profile

And then for a and b, I have to calculate the hydraulic gradients and the rates of flow through the profile. For case c, I need to determine the depth of the water table.




This is driving me insane! HAAAAALLLLPPPPP!

in my soils class whenever we were dealing with really difficult sounding problems I always over-thought it. Even entire projects. It sounds like you might be doing the same.

Depending on the course level, 1-200 (im guessing), maybe 300 just do whatever seams reasonable. Find the extreme amount for each value and make a gradient going to it in a 'soil profile scale model'. I feel like this kinda stuff should've been taught in either lecture or homework so you should know it or it should be pretty easily available for reference in your book or your teacher's lecture slides (mine were always available, idk about yours). But yeah, it's been a while since I had a similar class so best of luck.

If it comes to it, just consult a beer for advise. If the problem isn't resolved, consult more beers and then find your TA/drink beers with said TA and get him/her to do it all for you. Or just talk to the TA/read the book better and you'll probably find what you need. If you procrastinated until the last minute for something you know little about, I have no sympathy.

Actually it's 1051, but that's cool. Yes, I procrastinated however I wouldn't say that I know nothing about the subject matter. I am confused and figured that someone on NS would be able to offer advice. My textbook is completely ambiguous and my professor has his own method of teaching. Thanks for you post.

sorry, your school's numerical system is totally different from mine (100 being freshman, 400 being senior, basically) wish I could've helped a bit more. Usually google/yahoo answers has something for me, and my professors post all of their lecture slides online (university policy or something)...good luck!

you are a girl. get someone in your class to explain it to you. if you are even remotely attractive it is impossible to not find guys who want to study with you/help you. call someone up and ask for help with the hw. you would rather deal with e-people than a real person?

You must have more data? To calculate the hydraulic gradient you need data from at least 2 different piezometers.
