well i am a big supporter of final cut pro 7. if you have final cut pro x then i say use premier hands down. i personally haven't used premier enough to make a decision on whats really "better." they are very similar tho in a lot of ways so maybe learn both at the same time cuz each has a few pros and cons that the other doesn't have. so maybe look into that and see what is best for you.
but if you want the smoothest transition to after effects for lots of post production effects type stuff, go with premier. i think it also lets you edit in an uncompressed timeline or something like that (i could be wrong) and if you are using a red camera, premier i hear has a smoother workflow for that.
i love final cut tho and probably won't be switching anytime soon. i still use after effects and i use apple's color, soundtrack, cinema tools, and compressor ALL the time which are all a part of the fcp7 suite. so i love it for that.
but i recommend playing with both and seeing what feels more comfortable to you.
