Coffee Drinkers: Help Me.

Blah blah, black coffee I'm so fucking cool, make fun of my sugar if you're that big of a tool.


So now on to business.  I have a super-convenient Keurig brewer and I have a question about a new type of coffee I just started drinking.  It's 'Dark Magic expresso blend by Green Mountain' and despite being so bold and dark, with a kick ass amount of caffeine, I find that I have to use significantly less sugar to achieve my desired taste.  Does anyone know why it's like this?

Different blends just have different flavors. That blend probably just has a sweeter taste and is less bitter than others and you don't need to put as much sugar in it to get it to the level of sweetness you desire.

Kuerig brewers and K-Cups are the worst for the environment, and Green Mountain Coffee is a misleading corporation.

Those k-cups start as virgin material and go right in to a landfill. They are not recyclable because of the range of materials in them. Because the K-cup has to handle a crazy range of pressures and temperatures it is currently impossible to make one from recycled materials or one that is biodegradeable.

2ndly, Green Mountain only sells about 10% of their product as Fair Trade, the rest of their beans are from sources that take advantage of the coffee growing populations.

Get the fuck out of here. K-Cups are the best. So I throw 7 little plastic cups in the garbage every week. Who cares?

You don't have to use those k-cups in Kuerig brewers. They make little plastic cups with a filter to just pour in however much of any kind of coffee that you want. That's what I use, you just continue to use that thing and buy bulk of whatever brand of coffee you choose. No waste, it's no different than making a big pot of coffee.

Ohhh your response is so unfortunate. You are an idiot not to recognize why someone should care. Clearly you like skiing you are here on NS, so does the reality of warmer temperatures sit well with you?... ie no snow. Why don't you look out the window and see how this winter is going and ponder your comment again.

This thought went through my head, but I wanted to get it nailed down.  This is the best coffee I have had outside of a shop, and I'm glad my mom got me 50 k-cups for christmas.  Now I can destroy the world with tiny plastic cups.

Ahh so much this. I was at the mall with my girlfriend over the holidays and we stopped at Starbucks for a coffee. I got a medium size (grande?) iced coffee and had to throw it away before I was half done because it just tasted like burnt coffee beans. It was disgusting. I also find that if I get a hot coffee from Starbucks it's WAY too hot. Like, impossible to drink for 20 minutes hot. They need to just turn down the heat on their coffee machines.

It's probably because you can actually get some pretty decent coffee in those cups. Good coffee you don't need as much sugar to get the taste you want because the coffee doesn't have the bitterness.

I rock the k-cups when I am at my parents house and it's pretty damn good. Still though I swear by freshly ground coffee in my french press.

this thread blows.

It takes me ~8 min every morn to make my french press coffee. Only about a min of that is actually doing something. The other 6 i'm making/eating oatmeal, getting dressed, etc.

1. Fill coffee mug w water, put in microwave for ~3:45
2. Grind beans, I do it every other day. As to not get too old of grounds
3. Put grounds in french press
4. Pour hot water from mug in french press
5. Start timer for ~3:10....that's the time i've narrowed down
6. Right after starting timer give it a quick stir
7. Put cover/lid thing on.
8. Times up! push down plunger slowly.
9. Enjoy

Milk and sugar is fine, I just don't prefer it in the morning. If I make a cup in the afternoon I'll put a tiny bit of milk in.

And K-cups? Way to contribute to the disposable culture. Its hundreds of millions of people who think, its just a little cup, whatever, that adds up. Use the refillable thing, its better coffee anyway.

i was given a k-cup coffee maker for xmas and pretty much refuse to pay full price for k-cups. i was stunned when i saw the cup you are talking about for sale for $15-$20 and i refuse to buy it. the only time i will buy new k-cups if they're on sale and i have a coupon for them. once i run out of free samples its back to the old coffee maker

and OP, i have one of those green mountain cups at home, will have to try it and report back

How does this contribute to my thread?  I wanted to know why a certain blend of coffee needed less sugar.  Everyone knows FP's are the best, my biggest problem with them are the people that just have to downtalk every other way of making coffee.

Consider the bigger picture for a second. Its not one individual drinking from a certain coffee cup that causes harm to the environment. Its the millions and millions of people everyday living fully unsustainable lifestyles, contributing to the tonnes of nonbiodegradable waste added to landfills daily.

seriously, how fucking lazy do you have to be to not take 5 minutes out of your morning to make a coffee that doesn't involve excessive usage of material. my coffee machine is one touch as well, but all i have to do is put in the paper, put the grinds and water in, then let it rip. no stupid individual cups that you have to put on a shopping list every week.

This. After a few tries you'll be making better coffee than any machine ever could. If you make your coffee correctly and use quality beans you won't have to use sugar.
