I know freestyle skiing is slowly gaining more popularity but I hope this really pushes it over the edge.

Hmmm. This is a good question. In my opinion I thnk it really depends on the next 2 years leading up to it. If Skiing continues to gain the popularity that it has been gaining the past few years I think going into the games will be very different if skiing is as it is currently. There is also the hype factor, if people hype it up to the level it should be hyped at there is a very good chance the games could change the sport forever. It will be interesting to see nonetheless.

i feel like all of my friends will watch slopestyle and super pipe and i will have to explain a bunch of shit to them. but if it's getting more people into the sport i think it's great.

more people into the sport = more events, more product and more revenue

I doubt it'll have a huge impact as far as becoming more mainstream. Most people who ski can see the park/pipe antics from the lift currently. I usually get the usual "you guys are nuts. Are you pros?" then you have to explain how sub par you are in the grand scheme and how there are people far better than you. Haha. I do however think it'll make an impact on competition safety standards. I'll bet anything that there's an Olympic committee somewhere hashing out specifics in light of recent events.

its going to be like curling. Cool to watch when its on tv but when its over, no one will care anymore. Though there are more sick sponsors in skiing now like polo. I wold be pumped for sucj a bro look on the lopes

I feel like I have already seen greater interest in the last couple years in freeskiing compared to before. I think the Olympics will only fuel that interest, but like it's been said I think that it will more depend on the hype that freeskiing gets in the next couple of years leading up to it.

heres what will happen:
1) tons of kids who have never skied will get hooked on it from watching it on TV.
2) they will jump directly into park without learning how to ski first,
3) we will hate them,
4) they will stand on landings until they get hit and die, and eventually they will all be extinct
5) then skiing will be banned from the Olympics
6) and then return to how it should be, which is what it is NOW!

i wanna see what happens when guys like wallisch and henrik become big names from doing well in the olypmics (potentially, its a ways off now) and then mainstream type people start looking them up and see all this 4bi9 thug shit and wu tang and edits like kratom life guacuamole sundaze white gurls and all these blantant drug references ppl are gonna be like wait..... hahaha not sure the olympics is ready for this but hopefully freeskiing and ns can stay outrageous

Do we really want a Shaun White of skiing? Honestly who cares if freeskiing becomes popular, I'd rather have a small passionate community than a bunch of people who think they know skiing because they "saw that Timmy Whamstix fella win a gold medal in the trick park at the olympics".
