Winter Park help

Hey guys,

Gonna be up at Winter Park for 4 days or so mid February. Have a few questions before I go:

Where is the best tree skiing inside of the resort? i have heard much about the Eagle Wind lift and Panoramic Express. Can someone tell me where the goods are at?

Is the hike up to the bowls worth it? Is it even a hike? or traverse? They look pretty fun, but not really sure if its worth the mile and a half trek up.

Where is the best place to get rentals? Im bringing up my chronics, but if we get a deep day, I for sure want to rent some pow sticks. Also looking for reasonable prices.

If theres any other tips you guys could point out, that would be awesome!

i went up last year and i thought Bluebird had some great tree skiing. but you really cant go wrong on any slope. there is so much tree skiing and it is sooo fun. The bowl is nice too. whatever you do stay away from outhouse took me and my friends like 20min to get down it. haha

Best trees imo are tophers/mushroom patch and left side of trestle around the mj chutes. eagle wind is kind of hit and miss. the trees off the back side of vasquez ridge at the top of pioneer can be great too. panoramic is kinda meh. if the base is still below 65ish inches when you come out I would stay out of the trees. its too sketch and ski patrol can and will ticket you if they catch you.

its a traverse from the top of panoramic, and a hike from eagle wind to the cirque and upper chutes. definitely worth it. but its a pain in the ass to get back to panoramic from the bottom.

not sure on any specific shops, but there are a lot of shops at the base that I know demo fat skis.

as for any other tips, be prepared to feel like your legs just exploded after skiing mj all day.

wait what? your not allowed to ski in the trees at WP? or are you saying off of the vasquez ridge?

if the base is less than 60in, ski patrol can ticket you if they catch you in the trees. you can ski anywhere though with a good base.

based on the summit or mid mountain? I still have almost 3 weeks till im going, so im guessing it will get to 60in considering its only 8 in away as of right now.

summit. we're at like 55 right now, so you should be good. but with the way the weather's been this season there's no telling.

right on. looking at the trail map. have heard alot about tophers and mushroom, where are they located? also, do they get tracked out easily?

unless you have a pass only to there take the extra 30 or so min. drive to keystone, breck, or vail. its well worth it

cant say I agree with this. Yes if you want to be bothered by jerry's all day then yea do this. But, if you want to have fun and no lift lines, endless trees and a park to yourself, go to WP

This IS SOOOOO WRONG, many of my friends are ski patrollers at WP and that is bull. if there is no rope then u can ski it, thats the beauty of national forest property.

I was literally told by a ski patroller last week that patrollers can ticket you for it.

gonna be up there the 22nd to the 25th (feb) and need some locals to film with. i know theres some good secret spots out there.



I have a full DSLR setup and really wanna get some shots out there.

^^ Yeah you do have to watch a video and pay a fee to get a dark territory pass BUT this is actually a really nice way to do it because that park has zero gapers in it, and not much traffic, and the jumps are massive (well they were when i was there 3 years ago at least). they have a really nice pipe too, being from the midwest it was fun to ride a legit superpipe for the first time.

These people most likely have much better advice than i have to offer. I went in a drought year, and still had a blast. One other thing i just remembered where some chutes on mary jane. i forget what they were called but they looked gnar and where closed when i was there.

Definitely Tophers and Mushroom patch. I'm also a big fan of hitting the pine cliffs into the top of the sleeper trees. Like someone else said, trees to the left of blue bell are great if you stay high, where you can find a pretty fun cliff band. Basically all of the trees on Mary Jane side should be fun

looked them up on youtube..

look really rad. WP said something about them closing down some of tophers for the year. can i get some truth factor to this?

It could be true, some dude died in an avalanche in that area a couple weeks ago and the avy danger continues to be pretty bad across the state
