Powder ski crampons...?

Hey guys,

i have some bent chetlers (123 underfoot) and im looking to add some crampons to the marker barons that i have. marker only make crampons up to 113mm or somewhere in that area...

Obviously i wouldnt even want to be touring on chetlers in icy conditions, but if it was maybe an quicker/steeper route in a wind blown section they could come in handy...

i was thinking maybe i could buy the widest marker do, and make some mods to it mysely, just angles grind the vertical side parts off, and then weld a wider plate to it or something along those line...

Any thoughts?

If your going to cut it up and weld a new plate on you might aswell get some sheet metal and make your own.

i'm pretty sure the crampons are aluminium, so if you're talking about welding, you're talking about mig welding, right ?

and do you think that your weld will be strong enough to take the beating ?

You would have to tig weld the aluminum of you want it to be semi strong.

Yeh i thought first off to make one myself, but i am a little unsure how well that would work with the attachment system. i've played with the crampons in stores and i dont think i would trust myself to make a strong enough attachment system.

Might give it a go anyway
