Wax iron question

So, I finally got a real waxing iron, one of the cheaper swix irons.
I've used it a few times, and every time it has started smoking.
I always set the iron to the temp printed on the wax (no i'm not messing up the temps between F and C) and the bases aren't getting too hot.
So NS, why is my iron smoking?

Insight would be appreciated, thanks

I'm not too sure but it could be the wax if the bases aren't getting that hot but there's smoke. What kind of wax are you using?

well, yea, it's the wax that's smoking, but it's on the recommended temp
i've used all temp warm, all temp cold, ch7, lf7, and lf 6

Simply adjust the iron to a temp where it will melt the wax without smoking and you will be good to go. If it is off a little bit its not that big of a deal the temperature are usually recommended and can vary slightly between irons on occasion. Just always make sure the wax isn't smoking, harmful chemicals can be in the burning wax.

thanks, but when i turn it down, it;'s barely hot enough to do anything. I used the same wax with my friend's iron, set to the same temp and it didn't smoke

In that case I would say you got a faulty piece of wax, where the chemical mixture probably is not correct in the portion you received. Correctly made wax should have a solid  melting point where it isn't burning.

I suggest using a new stick of wax(so your not inhaling those bad chemicals or if it is higher grade wax I would contact them and let them know maybe get a new stick out of it...

either this or try cleaning your iron with a tex pad. Whenever i turn my iron on it smokes for about 10 seconds. Then it melts the wax just fine. I think its just dirty wax on the iron and it just burns off when i turn it on. I crank it all the way up and just a quick sqip with a tex pad cleans it off.

i've tried it with several different waxes, so i don't think that's it

honestly sounds like something is whack with your iron. to begin with, really basic irons have inconsistent temperatures across their base so they are not usually at the temp which the indicator says. The nicer the iron, the more consistent the temp across the base is- it's why there are $300 digital irons.

It sounds like your basic iron has something wrong with it and I would try to warranty/replace it.

Try messing around with the iron to see what temperature works best, I duct taped mine down at a certain heat but different irons different temperatures wax till u can find the perfect temp!
