Hey, I'm planning on moving to whistler for next winter, just wondering if you guys have any advice on setting up? What can I expect for rent, how to find a place, you know, just general advice on making the transition. I'm hoping to make enough during the summer that I won't have to get a job while i'm there.
Unless you make like 10-15gs in the summer and bank all of it your not gonna be able to make it through the winter there without a job unless u live in a tent and fish for your food.
The earlier you move up (like right after summer) the more and better places there are.
I'd find at least a part time job...whistler's fucking expensive and while its nice to ski all day everyday having a job will keep some money in your pocket
you fools drink too much, Whistler isn't that expensive, $650 realistically for rent and $80 a week for food. Making 10gs a summer is totally possible too.
how expensive you re season s gonna be depends on how much you actually go skiing instead of going out.
personnaly i barely go out and i eat pasta + sandwiches at lunch and i ve been doing perfectly fine so far on my saving from the fall, without any source of income.
whistler s expensive if you go out. if you dont then it s fine.
go skiing, come back, smoke weed, go to sleep, repeat.
Or, you can work in a bar or be a cab driver. and work weekend nights and make tons of cash and meet lots of ppl, including sexy drunk babes. and ski weekdays, when its less busy
well he is from van...but yea no problem finding it here, if you want the absolute premium buds then youd probly have to go to van...but plenty of good stuff gets brought up here, its a bit pricey, not too bad though, normally around like 170-200 an o for kush
Ya money shouldn't be a big problem, I have a good summer job and can probably bank 20+. Just wondering mostly about finding a place and stuff. Which area's would be the best to try find a place, area's to avoid, how to find a fairly cheap place....ect
walking distance to village and lift will be more expensive, even creekside isn't super cheap. There is good buses in whistler thoug. Emerald and Alpine would be cheapest I'm assuming but they are a bit of a trek. I live in Nordic and rather enjoy the distance and the buses come often.
Watch out for scams on craigslist, there are lots.
Don't expect to pay less than 500/month for a room of your own.
Probably the cheapest way is to work at whistler part time, ask for like 2 shifts a week, get a free seasons pass and ask for a single room in building 7 for staff housing. You'll pay like 520 a month, be right on the hill, and the place is pretty livable.
thanks for the advice everybody. Couple more questions, whats the bus service in whis like, should i bother bringing my car or should i save the money? Also, when is the best time to come get a place, if i come later, say mid december, will i have trouble getting something?
Yes you will have trouble getting something mid december, bus system is alright, montly bus pass is like 60$/month, but I wish I had a car sometimes... And a sled, bring your car and a sled=epic success
Hey is getting there in late october fine? And what would be the minimum amount of money to have BEFORE going to whistler (considering we are 2 guys going and are both working full time as of right now)
I would recommend getting some sort of part time job. That way you will still have money at the end of the season and you will meet a lot of new people.
