How do people like Henrik and Casabon get away with switching from a boot like an SPK pro that has a 104mm last (I think), to fulltilts which are notoriously narrow (98ish mm last)?

The Full Tilt Team all get custom molded boots I believe, meaning shell, tongue, liner, everything.

Because they have skinny, tiny feet. Just because someone wore an spk before doesn't mean they had wide feet. Plus, ft makes a 102mm last boot if they need it...

They don't get custom boots. They get the same boot you would buy.
Sure, they have liners, tongues, etc. to swap out if they need them, but the shell isn't different.

Please tell me you're joking. Molds can cost 10 of thousands of dollars. Its why they make they same size shell for a full-size liner and half-size liner. Same reason FT tongues have a wide range of boot sizes they can fit on.

no you heat up the shells, and punch them out in certain spots so they are form fitting to your feet, and then heat mold the liners afterwards. It doesnt cost anything to do assuming you have the basic equipment needed to do it. Its like what places like surefoot do.

sometimes a rider will get to the level where having boots with different coloured toes, forefoot, calf , buckles etc.. is not enough. this is when they upgrade to something wil ultimate steez - cable covers. only then can the steez factor of the boots match that of the rider and the riders various tall garments.

the "fitted" boot is unnecessary.

Ironic sarcasm coming from the kid who cuts his boots in half. It just seems weird that some of these kids are using boots that probably start out with a fit that is completely wrong for their foot.

A skilled bootfitter can make any boot fit any foot! (with enough work)

The pro's start with the same boots as you and me could buy. They are somtimes modded to change the boots. For example Dane Tudor used SPK Pro's last season but with a differnt front spoiler/ladder bridge. Other then doing small things like this liners and footbeds can be changes. If you put a foam liner in an SPK it can fit a narrow foot very well. Dumont just used normal SPK pro's with intution liners. Bobby and woodsy just use standard SPK's with footbeds, and douglas uses Ghosts with intutions.

So as you can see for the most parts boots are pretty much standard for pro's too, they just get them well fitted.

So as most of you that saw the picture that my buddy Dan J Cardon took of me fitting BDOG, yes now hes in FTs. And no, all FT riders dont get custom fitted, although yes I was sent down to custom fit BDOG. Some riders have the luck of just sliding the boot on and slaying on it without even a heat mold. So BDOG was in SPKs but that doesnt mean much. A ton of riders are in that tug boat of a boot because people think that its a park boot and its comfy. Some riders that are in it love it cause it fits well, others just are in it cause it was the only park boot at the shop they went to. The truth is the best park boot is going to be the best fitting boot. That being said once I checked out Bdogs foot I knew that it was a better fit in the Original FT shell which is a 99mm last. That combined with its completely heat moldable liner, its a bit more generous than what most people think...as long as it is fit properly. And yes FTs do come in a 102mm last but the original 99mm is where its at. The SPK is a cavernous boot and unless you have a very high volume foot, I would say that there are better fits out there. I have a high volume foot as well as some of my homies and local riders and we can do all kinds of magical shit to FTs. Check out the custom work I did for Matty B of Eastern Collective, got him back in his boots after almost 2 years of recovery. Cheers. The same thing happened to me tried on the konflicts could hardly do the buckles up, I really wish I could wear FTs, the concept behind them is great just they don't fit me

Quoting for truth.

Pros get shipped the same boots you get in a shop, but they need to still get fitted. This is where guys like me and Ryan @ Skirack come into the equation. Phil got his boots dialed and now lives in comfy foot heaven. No pro skier would ever go without a proper fitting, it just isn't worth it.
