Listen, spending almost $1,000 on a camera that you only plan to shoot skiing with seems kind of pointless to me. You can't buy a camera that you have no knowledge of and assume you're only going to film park skiing with it. I say go to a camera store, try out your options, and get a feel for what you're going to be shooting with. Keep and open mind and try shooting everything you can, you will find what you like and don't like shooting. The 7D body is roughly 1,800 new, don't you think that's a big investment for something you don't know much about? If I were to give you a good set up for filming it would be over 3,000 dollars. Think about buying a normal video camera first before you spend all that cash. But whatever, it's your money, not mine. No hate intended, just trying to help you see the bigger picture.

if you have to ask id say you dont need/want a dslr, check my threads ill hook it up with the panasonic im selling-and you stilll get some quality ass shots

for only filming, a dedicated video camera, or a panasonic gh2. Otherwise I would say the 7d, because it is weather sealed and has a magnesium alloy body, but the weather sealing only matters if you use L lenses, and a rain cover is very cheap. Also the other cameras won't break from a single drop of water. filling out the sticky would be very helpful though

nah. at this point, nobody should really be recommending a 7D as a filming camera

If your using this strictly for filming, go with either the t2i or t3i. I personally have the t3i, I think the extra money was totally worth it. The flip out screen is very useful. Also, they t3i seems to have a better build then the t2i. Comes down to opinion though.

t2is your best budget option, youll save some cash for lenses

the t2i is gonna be the cheapest for sure and shoots the same quality as the upper cameras just not all the extra bells and whistles. i recommend not going with the 7d if you're just gonna do video because the 60d and models down have better video functionality. i have a 60d and use 7d's for class and i really like my 60d for filming way better cuz of ML

Where have you "heard" that.  I've shot both and that is a completely incorrect statement.

Also i've compared the ISO in a same lowlight situation and the 7D beat out the t3i.

I'd go with a 7D over a t3i or t2i.  Even if your solely doing video.  But that is me personally.  The layout of the camera is better, the one downside you could argue is it not being hacked, but many manage to get around that.  You'd be amazed how many productions in Actions sports were shot on 7D's in the last couple seasons. 

although this is largely because a lot of the action sports filmers jumped on the DSLR train before other options were available, i can think of several offhand. its not like the 60D, t3i, or t2i are enough to warrant selling a 7D and moving to one of those.


i say any of the cams over the 7D, but hte 7D is still a really sick camera.

doesn't matter how good you are, i legitimately think that if you are buying a DSLR for filming purposes, a 7D is not the best use of your money. but i'll reiterate, AT THIS POINT. in the past this was obviously not true as the 7D reigned supreme for a while.

but for strictly video, i would rather put my money toward a 60D if I were buying a DSLR right now. or T3i depending on my funds

It's true he did say that.  Or that he heard that, and he surely believed it.  It's not the case.  I'm not ragging t2i's, t3i's or 60d's but I've had my hands on all of them and magic lantern aside I'd still take a 7D.  Some cameras have a feel about them.  The 7D had that, even the button and control layout of the camera made it worth it to me, this is even compared to a 5D. 

The other big thing for me was the waterproofing.  I owned a 5D that got ruined in 1 day of snow.  I had my 7D in hawaii around sand, salt water, a rain storm, with no cover mind you, and several blizzards in Colorado and never ever had a problem.  It was built to take a beating from the elements.  That is worth it to me.  I'd rather have 1 7D then go through a couple t2i's because of some snow. 

I'm not discrediting those cameras, they're great, each individual has there own budget.  I'm just saying in my eyes the 7D was unique, yes overpriced but it was also a great stills camera.  For just plain video features yes, it was in line with the t3i in many ways.  But for stills it was amazing as well.  It served both purposes for me in that regards.  I still wish I had my 7D right now as I'm breaking in my new camera.

I'm finding the results and looks I want to be alot harder to nail down, but there is a much steeper learning curve and more to control.  I found the 7D to just flow and work naturally in many ways.  Everyone is going to like what they own and want the thing thats better.  It's natural. 

So to the OP, if your on a budget and want more for glass get a t3i or 60D, shoot you should've snagged one of the 3 7D's I was selling for 1050...My best recommendation is trying them all.  Rent each one and see how they work for you personally. Find your own flavor rather than trusting 20 other armchairs.

also, i wasn't saying fucking lol if you actually said that, i meant it towards if the t2i/t3i actually had better noise performance.
