Tech ed HALP

In my 12th grade engineering class we have the assignment of building a working go kart. He doesnt give us anything but a verticle shaft motor. Does anyone have any experience in go karts or any advice? +K

lucky, my tech class would never do something like this. i made a longboard and an rc car :(

throw a riding mower transaxle on the back and use belts and pulleys. its much more difficult to convert a vertical shaft to a horizontal shaft. using a lawn mower rear you already have the back set up and you dont have to worry about chain angles, motor mounts, axle bearings, axles. or just bolt it on to the whole mower frame from a junkyard and do small modifications to make it look kinda like a go kart

built a motor bike a few months ago but no go kart.

but my recomendation would be a bewel gear. not sure where you'd find one or how it's work but it's the only way i can think of righ now to go from vertical to hor

It is a pretty sick class! Shmencil and I are in it together. Everything in the tech shop is brand new from atleast the last two years. We used to have a terrible Tech teacher but three years ago he got fired. A new teacher came in and basically reworked the entire tech class got a bunch of grant money and a bunch of machines.
