The problem with small aircraft is that they crash quite frequently. I flying, but I don't think I would like hitting the ground at around 700 mph. How do you get over your fear when flying a small aircraft.

-More planes, more probability of crashes. Just like cars. Also, most of the people flying those little things have an extremely small amount of very basic training. You can pretty much just purchase a PPL.

-Little planes don't go anywhere close to 700 mph, more like 100 tops.

-You study and get good. Flying isn't some redneck operation, risk can be substantially offset with training and practice on the ground.

Rotary wing is more costly and has what I would call a steeper learning carve.

Anyways, I'm checked out on a Stinson 108 now. That taildragger life. Honestly, if you don't have any tailwheel time, I suggest you go and get it. I am far better off now than I was before I got endorsed; and I learned sooooo much about the importance of coordinated flying, and general 'stick and rudder skills'.

I have no experience but am interested in learning. Tips? Thoughts? I've always been good at multitasking and learning with attention to deal. Cost isn't an issue right now. What do u suggest in the long and short?

I'm actually taking a class to get my tailwheel endorsement my spring semester at school. I'm just generally really excited to start flying out west after this garbage weather here in PA.

I'm testing for my instrument rating in around 3 weeks. So I'm pretty excited for that too.

@Rick Roll. I'm not a rotary pilot, just know loads of them. Ultimately you need to start somewhere, so going to a flight school that offers helicopter instruction would be a start.

And yeah, tailwheel is crazy. It's wildly different from flying your typical tricycle gear machine. You'll really notice it on your first takeoff. When you first rotate, that p-factor and precession kick in hard, and the whole airplane yaws super hard to the left. Add in a left crosswind and then your really working.

Taxing them is a dream though. Turn on a dime, all day everyday.

When you guys re flying do you jam out hard to music? Does a plane have an aux in it USB connector even? I hate driving without music, but flying is a bit cooler. I don't fly anything, just asking.

Also I love flying though, the whole airport experience is like an adventure, even if security sucks. I have like a million pictures in and around airports and out plane windows.

Newer stuff comes with an auxiliary port for music and so do some intercoms. Then stuff like Bose headsets are Bluetooth compatible so you can listen to music that way. Then a navigational instrument the ADF operates on AM frequencies, so that's all I listen to... I usually get stuck listening to some old school farm tradio.

The sketchy thing about flying with music is monitoring the actual radio to listen for other traffic. Some new stuff cuts the music out so you can hear other people but most stuff doesn't. Just gotta be quick on the volume...

Were you flying 'against' another F-16 there? How has the flying been going? Looks pretty damn awesome!

And a 172 is fun, but I don't think they'll ever be F-16 fun.

I also had the opportunity to do a quick flight with our customer in his T-28 after we did some fixes on the CHT sensors. Got to take the stick of that thing, and it is such a weird feel. The airplane feels heavy, but the controls so light... Hard to explain.

I also find it somewhat ironic that there isn't enough money in fixing airplanes to actually ever afford one of that caliber. I'll figure something out one day...

If you want to fly like just private aircraft eyesight is no problem. You should just go get lessons. Just like a drivers license + a little. As long as your vision can be corrected to 20/20 your good.

i pretty much grew up in helicopters and spend countless hours in them in the summer working for my dads company. i'm slowly working at my private fix wing, hopefully gonna buy a 172 or something a little bigger for floats when i'm older.

ever since i was a little kid my Dad had his PPL and so quite often i got to go up with him in rented 172's before he purchased a 69 piper arrow that took our family all over Canada and from coast to coast in the summer of 2009 with the Century Flight Club, along with 100 other airplanes from all over Canada to celebrate the 100th anniversary of flight in Canada. Just recently my dad sold off his RV7A kit he was building to buy a completed one and now with my recent move away to go to college i miss the regular flights. I plan to start on my license as soon as i complete college this winter.

But my real dream lies with building aircraft not just flying them, the feeling of accomplishment of building a vehicle that is so capable such as an aircraft is, is mind boggling.

This video was the theme song to the Century flight Club 100th anniversary of flight and the thumbnail is my Fathers 1969 PA-28R Piper Arrow with my family along for the ride over lake superior.

Woah, you would have passed through Brandon (CYBR). That's where we're based out of. That was pretty crazy having soooo many airplanes parked in the infield all at once. Met a lot of awesome people from that event to.

Yeah I know a guy with a homebuilt cub replica, hopefully I can get a chance to fly that thing. Seems so much funner than taildraggers, at least for training aircraft

ive been doing a bunch of flying in southern B.C., working on my commercial and having a hell of a time!
Thinking of doing an aerobatic rating this summer if I get the job I'm hoping for, does anyone have any hot tips on what to look for when choosing a school to do it through?

I just flew for the first time when I was in Florida down the coast from Ft. Lauderdale to Miami over Miami beach and the ocean and whatnot and it was amazing. Definitely something I'm interested in getting into, I just wish it wasn't so expensive.
