that whole movie is brilliant. so gut-wrenchingly powerful. apocalypse now is defintely up there too like others said. highlights for me are the opening scene, the helicopter attack and col. kilgore's speech, the dude with the grenade launcher, dennis hopper's outstanding performance and of course, the end.

i think what makes these films so powerful (or at least part of the reason they are so powerful) is the brutal reality of it all
