Wearing Smaller Boots

I have been browsing the BST and gear talk lately and have seen so many people saying they wear sizes such as 26.5 and 27. I am either incredibly foolish to believe that an average bootsize is a 29-30 (11-12) or are people purposely wearing smaller boots. If so what are the advantages.

Yeah, I wear size 11's and use 29's but my friend is size 12 and wears a 28 not sure if there are advantages.

well ski boots are supposed to fit a lot tighter than shoes so obviously people downsize. i dont think i know anyone who wears over 28.5

Yeah, most people wear and buy shoes that are too big, which isn't a huge deal. But as far as boots go, you want a nice tight, but comfortable fit I believe, but I could be all wrong, I'm no expert.

its not like people purposely wear a different size, they just wear the size that fits their feet. Like shoes. but boots fit smaller/tighter

so to answer your question, i guess some people in BST have bigger feet

If youre thinking of buying boots online. Try to have them fitted in a shop first, so you don't just blindly buy a boot that won't fit. Same shoe size does not equal safe boot fit

Oh i have boots but im in the market for new ones and was wondering if at the shop i should ask for smaller sizes and whatnot

yeah almost all people wear their street shoes way too big. but with ski boots you want a snug fit. go to a bootfitter op.

#1 selling size in ski boots is 27.5, then usually followed by 26.5 and 28.5

I wear a UK size 10 shoe, but in a ski boot I wear a 27 shell, which is equivalant to a UK size 8.  I sometimes jump down to a 26 shell as well.

go in and tell them what terrain you like to ski, what ability level you ski at, and what price range you are looking at. Thats it!!!!

a good bootfitter will take care of the rest. they will measure your foot, and give you a few options to try on. find the one you like the most, and then have the bootfitter fine tune the fit.
