Getting the rust off urbans

hey so im an urban newb and im hitting my first slightly downrail tomorow and its got some fairly thick rust on it were its been hit before i guess. so whats the best way to get rid of the rust quick in the field so it slided nice? would a file work?

you can bring some candle wax and rub it on so the rail slides easier

The best way to get rust off of rails is to use a can of wd-40 and some steel wool. Spray the wd-40 on and scrape the rail with steel wool. Voila, instant slideability.

I found pouring diet coke onto tin foil and rubbing the rail with the tin foil works well
