Spirituality in Skiing

I don't call it 'Soul Cruising' but.. hell yea, I'll cruise! I love to hit the slopes early and by myself, occasionally, to rip some turns to a dope soundtrack. I love marking the corduroy by myself especially with the freedom of being alone.

Yes, I actually do this quite often...it really makes you appreciate the surroundings and blessings of winter. Just listening to some tunes, I prefer some B.B King, Atmosphere or Boards of Canada to fully connect 'soul to snow', as corny as that fucking sounds.

I do this every time I ski, it's a spiritual healer for me. Even not skiing just standing on top of the mountain viewing over everything below it's unexplainable.

This is basically what skiing has become for me, park is cool but like... You get stuck in this little contained area and I just want to go be in the mountains, enjoy the nature, explore and have fun.

Getting some good turns in is more fun to me than any amount of flipping and rails and cliff hucking. I see those guys in their 60s shredding moguls with their bros that they've skied with for the past 30 years or so, and I completely understand why they do it and do nothing but bash moguls all day.

Man, honestly I haven't been skiing in weeks because I was getting burned out on the whole thing, seeing people get injured and stuff, not wanting to get hurt myself, the whole "scene" involved in park skiing (no offense to anyone but I'm sick of the obsession with image), but I just sent a couple messages out trying to find rides to whis and if I'm not there this weekend I will be the next one. Thanks for getting me re-stoked, and reminding me why I love skiing!

I fucking love baked soul cruisers and just thinking, the best thing in the world to me.

Regardless of style and terrain, I think most of us ski for the same reason. We chase that moment that we don't even know is occurring, when the rest of the planet doesn't fucking matter, bills, facebook, parents, school, career, job, viral videos, video games, NONE of that fucking matters are or is even in my head when I'm in the zone skiing. It's you, your skis, gravity, and snow. You're charging and hyper-focused, concentrating, with no thoughts/opinions/concerns running through your head. It's like a goddam meditation all day, truly bliss. Some days I like music, some just the silence and sound of skis on snow.

This post made my spine tingle. I love the stoke in this thread. And the comment above that said their sick of park skiing's obsession with image, true that.
