Canadian freestyle skier Sarah Burke has died after a head injury suffered Jan. 10, at the Eagle Superpipe park at Park City Mountain resort in Utah.
A statement from Burke’s family said the 29-year-old freestyle skier – a four-time winner at the X-Games, died at 9:22 Thursday morning at the University of Utah Hospital “ from injuries sustained in an accident on the Eagle Superpipe at Park City Mountain Resort ... She was training for upcoming winter events.”
The statement said she suffered a ruptured vertebral artery, one of the four major arteries supplying blood to the brain.
The family expressed deep gratitude to the skier’s friends for their love and support, and for travelling to Salt Lake City to comfort the family.
Very sad news, thoughts and prayers.
